The Exeter Sub
Clinton Junction is the connection between the Goderich Sub and the Exeter Sub that is also served by GEXR. The line goes south only to Centralia, but did originally run from London to Wingham Junction in the north. Customers along this line include the
grain co-op in Hensall and the Ag Growth International elevator in Exeter. The Parrish & Heimbecker grain elevator in
Centralia is no longer serviced. Chasing a Train on the Goderich Sub

the morning and heads to Goderich with empties for the Sifto Salt mine and any cars for the industries along the line. It will also service the Exeter Sub on an as-needed basis. Once in Goderich, it will run down to the mine at least twice to lift the loads, since winter weather

Chasing is easy, as the line parallels Highway 8 from Stratford to Goderich; you can easily pace and pick your photo spots. The small towns along the way provide excellent loca- tions, and the people are friendly and used to seeing people chasing the train. Since the speeds are limited between ten and 20 m.p.h. there is ample time to get ahead and capture the action. A couple of favorite locations of mine include Holmesville and Clinton, where the line connects to the Exeter Sub at Clinton Junction. My chase began on a November day in Stratford, but Train 581 had already left since it had a call time of 6:00 a.m. Since the train would spend some time in the yard, I figured I would be able to catch
