Sneeze and sniffle season is almost here, so now is the time to prepare yourself by getting a flu shot. Use your Co-op Connections card to receive a discount on flu shots at any participating pharmacy including CVS, Walgreen’s, Rite Aid, Target and more. Remember, discounts are good for your entire family.


To receive the discount, simply present your card at checkout. Ask the pharmacist to calculate the discounted price. If you have insurance, ask the pharmacist to compare the discount price to your insurance price so you can select the best deal.

Security Lights For Longer Nights


Long days are officially over on November 1, the official end of Daylight Savings Time. That means we set our clocks back by one hour, and the sun goes down a lot earlier.


If you find yourself fumbling in the dark, consider installing a 100-watt high pressure sodium or 40-watt LED security light from East Central Electric. Available for a small monthly fee, the light helps illuminate your property, making it safer for you and less attractive to thieves. Even better, your co-op will install the light and maintain it, so you don’t have to worry about it.

ervice disconnection is something everyone wants to avoid, including your electric co-op. At East Central Electric, disconnecting a service for nonpayment is an uncomfortable last resort that occurs only after several attempts are made to notify the account holder of the unpaid balance. Understanding your co-op’s disconnect procedures may help you avoid service interruptions.


S Disconnect for Nonpayment


1. Bills not paid by the due date are assessed a penalty of two percent of the balance.


2. If the bill is not paid by the next billing cycle, the member receives a cutoff notice that is attached to their new billing statement that shows the amount past due and the cutoff date.


3. Prior to the cutoff date, the co- op issues an automated call that informs the member that their account is subject to cutoff. The message includes the option to pay via telephone using the co- op’s pay-by-phone system.


4. If the bill remains unpaid by the cutoff date, the service is disconnected.


5. To reconnect the service, the member must pay the bill in full, plus a $100 reconnect fee.


Different disconnect procedures apply to members enrolled in the prepaid program.


Disconnect for Prepaid Accounts


1. Prepaid members receive a notice via phone and/or email when their credit balance is approaching zero.


2. When the balance reaches zero or below, the service is disconnected via remote signal.


3. Prepaid members are not assessed late fees or connection fees. To reconnect, the member pays a $25 minimum credit balance.

Members of Friends of Rural Electrification (FORE) toured the Western Farmers Electric Cooperative coal-fired plant near Hugo in October. Such trips help FORE members learn about issues such as the EPA emission regulations on power plants that threaten to raise electricity costs. FORE is comprised of East Central Electric
