Students Chosen For Youth Tour Trip includes major museums and attractions in Washington DC

Halea Oller, Wilburton High School; Shelby Linscott, Kiowa High School; and Chloe Harris, McCurtain High School, will spend June 9-15 visiting historic monuments, museums, and famous government buildings as part of Oklahoma's Youth Tour delegation.
The teens won the trip by competing in Kiamichi Electric's Youth Tour writing competition. The contest for high school juniors asked teens to write a letter to an elected official of their choice. In the letter, the students were asked to highlight an issue or problem that concerns them.
iamichi Electric Cooperative will send two local teens to Washington D.C. in June to participate in the
Todd Minshall, director of member services for Kiamichi Electric, said the entries covered a wide range of issues such as capital punishment, teacher salaries, school consolidation, and texting and driving.
"The broad range of topics was impressive,"said Minshall. "It was interesting was interesting to see what concerns today's youth."
An independent panel of judges evaluated the entries based on writing ability, clarity, spelling, grammar and the teen's ability to support their opinion with facts.
