OzarksGo: Coming to Oklahoma
In April, Stilwell residents voted yes to OzarksGo, a telecommunications subsidiary of Ozarks Electric. With overwhelming turnout and support, OzarksGo will now be coming to Stilwell and our service territory in northeast Oklahoma. We are excited to see the positive changes that will be brought with OzarksGo. But what exactly will this mean for the customers who will be able to receive OzarksGo?
Just as the lack of electricity kept lives primitive and limited productivity in the 30’s and 40’s, the lack of rural broadband does the same for families today. Even rural locations in Oklahoma that are currently offered some form of internet connections are vulnerable to the same problems of that first offered electricity in 1930. Connections are slow and expensive. Our members deserve better. Once again, better will come at the hands of a local company.
In Oklahoma, 67.3% of residents have access to broadband of 25mbps or faster, with only 1.1% having access to 1 gigabit broadband. These statistics include all of Oklahoma, not just the rural areas. But gigabit broadband will begin coming to the rural areas of northeast Oklahoma in late 2018.
The time is definitely right for rural broadband. OzarksGo, your
local provider, will bring it. We hope you are patient, as those farmers in the beginning. It will take time to run the many miles of fiber. But once again, rural America will be served in the way it deserves.
It will take several years for the service to be extended to every corner of our service territory, but the technology that will eventually be offered seems worth the wait. Randy Klindt, general manager of OzarksGo, says, “Internet service of this type is no longer a luxury. It is becoming a necessity. We are thrilled to be able to provide it.”
Our Gigabit offering is nearly 100 times faster than the typical household internet connection. We will set our prices extremely competitive with current offerings, but know that our service offers much
more for the price. We hope to make significant economic and technological impacts on our region.
For far too long, Oklahoma has been plagued with either a lack of true broadband availability or lack of reliable and affordable service. This project will bring real broadband to some area residents and businesses for the first time, as well as introduce speed, reliability and price to a region that has not seen this type of service. OzarksGo looks forward to this new venture and will work to bring it as quickly as possible.
