AFS NEWS FEF /AFS Distinguished Professor Award


Given to Professor Okhuysen at Conference More than 310 student delegates, key


professors, industry executives and uni- versity administrators were in attendance at this year’s FEF College Industry Con- ference, held Nov. 20-21 at the Westin Michigan Avenue in Chicago. At the conference, the FEF/AFS Distinguished Professor Award was given to FEF Key Professor Victor Okhuysen, Cal Poly-Pomona, in rec- ognition of his demonstrated personal interest in his students, as well as his interaction with the industry. Modern Casting also awarded its


scholarship to student Michael Konkel of Western Michigan Univ. Te Mod- ern Casting scholarship was one of 28 scholarships awarded. Te conference began on Tursday,


Nov. 20, with the Career Information Session which gave 93 student del- egates the opportunity to interact with


representatives of 41 companies in the metalcasting industry. Te informa- tion session and social time before and after the event was structured to facilitate the sharing of job opportuni- ties and connect students to potential employers in the industry. During the General Session on


Friday, the following speakers shared their experiences in the metalcasting industry: Benji Johnson (MAGMA Foundry Technologies), Sandy Ca- labrese (General Motors), and Jerry Tiel (University of Northern Iowa). At the Annual Reception on the


evening of Nov. 21, FEF’s highest award, the E.J. Walsh Award, was pre- sented to John (Chip) Keough, former FEF Board Member who is currently serving as the FEF Professor for the University of Michigan. Next year’s conference will be Nov. 19-20.


AFS Digital Annual Report With Video Released


The American Foundry Society (AFS) has released its annual re- port for the 2013-2014 fiscal year. The report shares the accomplish- ments and goals of AFS and gives a baseline for performance used to keep the organization moving forward. “AFS finished 2014 strong in


terms of both membership and revenues,” said Jerry Call, AFS CEO. “During the past year, the AFS staff worked with great dedication, de- termination and focus, alongside the AFS Board, to bring these encourag- ing results to fruition in all facets of our organization.” To view the AFS Annual Report
