50th NCGA Four-Ball Championship Spyglass Hill | May 6-8
E-club East Bay member Brett Viboch and Bobby
Bucey of Oakhurst Country Club got in a groove and became unstoppable. The two, who met at Oakhurst CC, took
control in the second round by posting a champi- onship record-tying 10-under 62. A day later in the final round, Viboch and Bucey sealed the deal by shooting a 64 to finish with a 54-hole cham- pionship record score of 21-under 195 and a five stroke victory. The 62 tied the mark set by R.C. Orr and Scott Doak in 2011. The 195 total eclipsed the previous record of 197, set in 2003 by Todd Barsotti and Jeff Wilson and matched in 2004 by Jason Boyd and Scott Gordon. “This is awesome,” said Viboch, a former
professional who regained his amateur status in 2014. “The best part is getting to share a win with family and friends and a partner. When you’re a pro, you’re out there by yourself.” “It feels so good to play a difficult golf course
so well,” added Bucey, who afterwards told his mom that the victory was her Mother’s Day present. “We stayed patient and positive early on. Then we just lit it up coming in.” Teammates Nick Moore and Matt Cohn had
their own 62 in the final round, pushing the duo into second place.

California Senior Women’s Amateur Championship Poppy Hills | May 16-17
It’d been a long time coming. Carlsbad resident Corey Weworski shot back-to-back
rounds of 2-over 74 to finish at 148 and claim her first win since the 2004 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship. Having entered the final round holding a one shot lead
over two-time defending champion Lynne Cowan, Wewor- ski never made any big mistakes. She’d card six bogeys but offset those with a pair of birdies and an eagle on the par-5 9th after reaching the green in two with a 7-iron. “I was pretty consistent. I played smart off the tee.
When I did make an error, I just took my lumps and played to bogey,” Weworski said. “It feels really good to win again.” Cowan, who was looking to become the first three-peat winner since Marianne Towersey, just couldn’t get anything going. The Rocklin resident had to settle for a 76, landing her three behind Weworski. In the Super Senior Championship (age 70-over),
Judith Turco shot a final round 84 to win with a 36-hole total of 178.
