50th Anniversary Celebration
2016 Celebrations
As befitting the University’s 50th anniversary celebrations, the Development and Alumni office has been involved in some wonderful events.
Norway
September saw a series of high-profile alumni events in Oslo, with more than 80 graduates attending an evening reception at the British Embassy. Hosted by the Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Richard Williams, Dame Frances Cairncross and Nuala Boyle, Assistant Principal (Development), the event was attended by the British Ambassador and alumni of graduating years from 1956 to 2016. The Development office also organised a dinner following the evening reception, and a business breakfast. Thank you to The Watt Club Norway branch for support in delivering these events.
1966 Lunch
To mark the 50th anniversary of Heriot-Watt University being awarded a Royal Charter and its university status, we invited alumni from the graduating year of 1966 to join us for a celebratory lunch at the Apex Hotel in the Grassmarket (formerly Heriot-Watt University prior to its relocation to the campus at Riccarton). Alumni brought along various memorabilia including photographs, books and papers they’d written.

Toronto
September also saw the Alumni office organise a lunch for alumni in Toronto, hosted by the Principal and Vice- Chancellor, Professor Richard Williams and Nuala Boyle, Assistant Principal (Development). The Principal provided an update to the lunch attendees and heard about their perceptions of the University. While in Toronto, Richard, Nuala and the University Chancellor Dr Robert Buchan visited Ryerson University to learn and exchange notes on topics such as the University’s role in the city, enterprise, entrepreneurship and advancement.
