Assistant Principal’s introduction
Welcome to the very special “golden” edition of our alumni magazine. With a new name, look and feel, we hope to inform as well as inspire you to connect further with Heriot-Watt.
We continuously take inspiration from our alumni, who have made significant contributions to society, the economy and the worlds of science, technology and innovation. They have actively provided solutions to real-world problems, proudly making their mark as members of the Heriot-Watt global community, and this special edition features examples of our wonderful talent.
Engaging our alumni in University and student activities is vital moving forward. Since taking up my new role, I have had the opportunity to meet a number of alumni, many volunteering and taking forward Watt Club activities, and I would like to
express my deepest thanks for all their efforts. I have received lots of great insight and feedback about how best we can improve our alumni offering. I am committed to ensuring our services and support are highly valued by our graduates throughout their careers. Equally, I am keen to animate our alumni community, encouraging interactions and connections, and build a vibrant volunteer network across the world in support of the University and wider student-related activities.
Heriot-Watt was built on a foundation of philanthropy, providing educational opportunities for all. This philanthropic support has proved life-changing for our students in Scotland, Malaysia and Dubai and has enabled our talented academics to create new solutions to help solve global challenges – whether that’s working to treat cancer, ensure provision of clean water or increase equality in the workplace. I would like to thank the many alumni who
have supported our Annual Fund and other fundraising activities, and I hope others will join them.
We want to keep in touch to update you about University initiatives and developments, as well as enlist your support and encourage you to give back across a spectrum of activities. Changes in marketing and fundraising regulations mean we need your specific consent for this and I would ask you to please opt in by visiting
alumni.hw.ac.uk/opt-in or completing the survey on the back of the address insert.
The warmth of our alumni community is tremendous and I know you feel proud to be part of it. Opt in, support our activities and be part of Heriot-Watt’s future.
