Meet the Team


The Development and Alumni Office (DAO) maintain relationships with all Heriot-Watt University graduates and friends, as well as securing donations to help advance the University. The team can be contacted at watt.club@hw.ac.uk


1. Keith Scott, Database Manager I am responsible for managing the department’s data and supporting colleagues to improve how we use information to engage with our stakeholders to advance the University’s goals and help with fundraising.


Tell us something about yourself that might surprise us...


Back in my twenties I played guitar in a band who got to the heady heights of number 17 in the UK indie charts and supported Ocean Colour Scene on a Scottish tour.


What is the one thing you couldn’t live without?


Bunnahabhain single malt.


2. Devon Hill, Research and Proposal Officer I facilitate research related to fundraising and write funding proposals to trusts and foundations.


Where did you grow up and what do you love about your hometown?


I grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina in the US. I love the seasons there – beautiful autumn leaves, pumpkin picking, pale pink dogwood blossoms, and the close proximity to both skiing and warm, white sandy beaches.

Nuala Boyle, Assistant Principal (Development) I lead on alumni engagement activities and philanthropic fundraising as well as sponsorship for the University and, over the past year, have been building a new team around these activities. With ambitions to launch our first institutional campaign in 2021, a key part of my

role is to develop the overall strategy, engage and enthuse our colleagues and students in our agenda as well as develop external relationships and support around University-wide activities.


What do you love about the city of Edinburgh?


Its beauty, its impact, the great restaurants and the weather – it is a lot drier than Glasgow, my hometown!


Tell us something about yourself that might surprise us...


I once sang Verdi’s Requiem at the Albert Hall, an amazing experience.


4. Martin Lawlor, Senior Development Executive I work with individuals, corporate partners, trusts and foundations to help fulfil their philanthropic goals and generate funds for University projects, students and research. I also work with other University departments to support relationships with potential donors and help facilitate discussions about funding opportunities.


What do you love about your hometown, and what do you love about Edinburgh?


I love the energy and craic of Cork people, boy! And I love the architecture, the light and blue-sky winter days of Edinburgh.

5. Shona Price, Alumni Engagement Manager My role is to lead, manage and reinvigorate a global programme of alumni engagement activities in order to build high quality relationships that will benefit the University and its current and future students.

“Make it happen!” – I’ve got a picture in my office as a daily reminder that only you can change things.

I once danced live on Canadian television with Shaggy.


6. Gavin Rennie, Alumni Engagement Officer I am responsible for leading a programme of engagement and volunteering activities, working closely with Schools across our campuses and with Watt Clubs worldwide. I play a key role in building lifelong relationships between our graduates and the University, which involves communications and marketing, events, relationship building and acting as the first point of contact for our alumni community.


If you could spend time in any city, which would you choose and why?


New York – I lived in New Jersey for three months and visited New York many times and I loved spending time there.


Tell us something about yourself that might surprise us...


I played table football for Scotland at the 1998 Table Football World Cup in London.


7. Anna McCallum, Administrative Assistant I assist the team with the office administration, organisation of events, gift processing and can help you with any Watt Club enquires that you might have.


If you could spend time in any country, which would you choose and why?


I would be happy anywhere in Italy with a setting sun and a big bowl of pasta.
