The impact of giving

Your support is providing life-changing opportunities for our students in Scotland, Malaysia and Dubai and enhancing our research, enabling our academics to create new knowledge, ideas and solutions in response to global issues and challenges.

Fantastic result for 2016 Annual Fund

Opens the door to match-funding and brings the total to:

£340,000

Wendy Shields Monthly donor

Wendy Shields is a 1996 BEng Graduate in Offshore Engineering and has been donating monthly since April 2012.

“When I received a student call to donate to the Annual Fund I was more than happy to support. Attending University is expensive and I know that my contribution helps to provide a top quality student experience.”

Craig Duffy Access Bursary recipient

Computer Science student Craig Duffy feared that he may never afford a university degree,

but after hearing about the Access Bursary and Robertson Scholarship Trust opportunities at Heriot-Watt, he applied for funding.

“I’ve gained skills I never thought I would have the opportunity to learn.”

“The Bursary’s existence made university accessible to me and has provided me with a great deal of comfort. It means I can concentrate on studying hard to achieve the best degree possible.”

Our annual telethon will be taking place from 29th January to 5th March 2017. Every penny raised will go to the annual fund.

Going Global with Heriot-Watt

The Heriot-Watt “Go Global” initiative promotes Inter- Campus Transfers between its campuses in the UK, Dubai and Malaysia, alongside other opportunities to study abroad such as Erasmus+ and Exchange programmes.

Going global is a fantastic opportunity for our students. In today’s world of globally connected business, the network, knowledge and experience built while studying abroad can give students a competitive edge and a new perspective on life, aspirations and career options. In the 2015/16 academic year, over 30 students from our Edinburgh Campus embraced “going global”.

Dr Nick Leslie, a leading researcher into causes of cancer, attracted charitable support to work on a genetic cancer syndrome, PTEN Hamartoma Tumour Syndrome.

Through the donor’s sponsorship of a PhD research scientist to work with Dr Leslie, this unique project could have a major impact on how the disease is treated and lead to new clinical trials that will help early diagnosis.

Total raised: £170,000 581

Number of donors:

Dr Nick Leslie and Dr Nisha Kriplani
