Jacqui Lockhart shares her insights on the 2017 MYBA Charter Show

T

he official countdown to the 2017 MYBA Charter Show began on the 16th of January, with the opening of online registration, and the first indications are that this year’s Show in Barcelona is going to open to a full house. At the time of writing, the list of attending/registered yachts already numbers well over 60 and the exhibitors’ stands are sold out with a waiting list in effect. The MYBA Charter Show is always one of the most important fixtures of the yachting calendar but this year promises to be an exceptional experience for luxury charter professionals.

The yachts will remain the protagonists but there is growing excitement about the new venue, OneOcean Port Vell, and about the destination itself. Barcelona, the city of Gaudi, is a cultural hub and a culinary heaven with months of endless sunshine and its architectural landscape never ceases to evolve. It is a city that invites you to explore it and, for those who arrive early, the Show has already negotiated prices for organised tours that range from a visit to La Sagrada Familia to wine tasting at Sitges. The details can be found on the Show’s official website along with useful information regarding transport and booking accommodation.

The support of the superyacht industry is strong and it is already evident in the form of sponsorships, broker registration and media attendance. MYBA has presented a new set of sponsorship packages (and opportunities) and they have been positively received. Agreements are in the process of being finalised for most of the available options and it will not be long before the sold out sign makes its appearance.

BWA Yachting were among the first to express their interest and are confirmed as the Official Show Sponsor. MYBA, which takes particular pride in its cooperations, is delighted to be working together with an organisation of this level of expertise and global reach for the 29th MYBA Charter Show. The level of repeat sponsorships also speaks volumes about the benefits

of positioning a brand alongside such an event. Over the years, strong relationships have been built and they are a vital part of MYBA’s strength.

The Show is always in search of improvements that will enhance the experience of attendees and contribute to business and this search has led to some interesting developments. A number of innovations have been revealed and among them is a new competition for interior crew. The “MYBA Art in a Glass” Competition will be open to those with exceptional skills in the creation of cocktails and is set to become one of the Show’s highlights, following in the footsteps of the very successful MYBA Superyacht Chefs’ Competition. Now in its 5th consecutive year, the Superyacht Chefs’ Competition, will once again be graced by an impressive lineup of judges. Antonio Mellino, the two Michelin starred chef of Quattro Passi, is returning to the panel where he will be joined by some of Spain’s finest chefs, and together they will face the difficult task of selecting the best of the best.

A modern and ergonomic reception & hospitality area will be unveiled and it will provide all that is necessary for doing business. Golf buggies and water shuttles will be available in order to facilitate the movement of attendees within the Show area and OneOcean Port Vell’s five star facilities will be at their disposal. Yacht waste will be recycled and the Show bags being reviewed are eco-friendly, in a continuing effort to minimise the footprint that the Show leaves behind it. Local neighbourhood initiatives are being discussed and they encompass activities such as inviting local students to learn more about the yachting industry and collecting food and clothing for charities.

2017 is an exciting year for the MYBA Charter Show and Jacqui Lockhart, Chair of the Boat Shows Panel, sums it up by saying: “The 2017 MYBA Charter Show is going to be a great event and we cannot wait to welcome everyone at OneOcean Port Vell.”
