Fatamorgana Tivoli
The first Huss Condor with a combination of swinging and new outward facing seats opened this spring at classic Copenhagen amusement destination Tivoli Gardens. Marketed as a three-in-one ride, the 45m-tall tower named Fatamorgana also features a kids’ bumper car track underneath called Minimorgana. Passengers on the new attraction will be whisked away into
the sky riding gilded winged lions and winged oryx these two rings of gondolas move at a faster pace to the outward seats, which allow passengers to appreciate the view of Copenhagen's streets from a ride height of 30m. The circular bumper car track (pictured left) with a floor pick-up system was provided by Gosetto, while Preston & Barbieri supplied the animal-themed cars. In customising the attraction, Tivoli designers Jonathan Gress Wright and Will Gurley took inspiration from minaret architecture, contemporary art and design culture and the celebratory oriental architecture of Tivoli. For example, a lot of the detailed decorations like lamps an tile work were purchased from Morocco. Stonework on the attraction was carried out by the German compay KaGo & Hammerschmidt.
Le Donjon de
l’extreme Nigloland This thrilling 100m-tall (328ft) Skyfall drop tower from Funtime is one of two tower rides that opened this season at Nigloland, Dolancourt, France. A load of 24 riders is carried to the top on the tower and, once
at the apex, the gondola rotates and they get a great view of the French countryside. After the release mechanism opens, passengers plummet all 100 metres in matter of seconds. Le Donjon de l'extrême, which was joined at Nigloland in 2016 by a family tower from Zierer (justs visible in the photo below), is the world’s tallest drop tower with a rotating gondola and fourth- tallest drop tower of any kind.
“It was a very good project for us and one that put us on the map when it comes to drop rides,” notes Funtime head engineer Hannes Lackner. “In the past three years we have opened many drop towers and Star Flyers, and this gigantic tower in France is the eigth. We continue to receive a lot of attention for both park and portable applications.” A 61m/200ft Skyfall tower has already been confirmed in 2017 for Dollywood, in a deal brokered by Ride Entertainment.
