Season Update parkworld-online.com

2016 Season Update

The New York Times famously brings its readers “all the news that's fit to print” – and when it comes to the theme parks and attractions industry, we try to do the same at Park World. Yet sometimes, regrettably, it's a case “all the news that fits.” So here, in this bumper IAAPA issue, are some of the new rides and attractions for 2016 that evaded us earlier in the year, and some bonus pictures of those we have already covered

Ragnarok Tusenfryd

Thrilling and soaking guests in equal measure this season at Tusenfryd outside Oslo, Norway, was this new rapids ride from Hafema. Featuring half-a-kilometre of channel and 1.3 million litres of water it is, believe it or not, the only ride of its kind in the Nordic countries. Raganarok has a capacity of 900 guests (or 100 rafts) per hour During their journey, riders

experience a series of exciting elements including rapids, waterfalls, a maelstrom and other challenging obstacles. The attraction features a Norse theme in keeping with other attractions such as the nearby dark ride Thor's Hammer. To construct the new ride, 18,000 cubic metres of earth (or 1,200 truckloads) had to be removed

from the park. Thereafter, 2.000 m3 of concrete cast was poured on the area , equivalent to 3,500 m2. Two large pumps push 2,200 gallons of water per second through the river to create the strong current that keeps the rafts moving.
