southern city, bordering Singapore, has become a popular family destination in recent years thanks to the presence of attractions such as Legoland Malaysia, KidZania and Puteri Harbor Family Theme Park, and the new project at Austin Heights looks like increasing tourist traffic yet further. Austin Heights Water & Adventure Park M
alaysia’s new Austin Heights Water and Adventure Park has got of to an encouraging start since opening earlier this year in Johor. The
Park expects to serve close to 300,000 guests in its first year. The tropical-themed facility spans a 8 hectare (19.8 acres) site and offers 12 water slides and attractions by Polin together with a wave pool by Atlantis and a variety of indoor options such as an adventure park, trampoline park, skating rink and drift karting. Finished in fresh-looking shades of blue, yellow and
orange, the waterpark area boasts a series of exciting combination waterslides from the famous Turkish manufacturer. These include both a Black Hole/Turbolance combo and a Black Hole/Flying Boats combo with a high speed slide path packed with special-effects, up and down segments and an unexpected drop. The Racer Twin Boat ride offers a circular slide path with
two tubes side by side. Riding inside 2-seater rafts, waterpark guests enjoy an adrenaline pumping experience as they pass through the tube’s twists and turns before exiting into a huge open bowl, which they whirl around until dropping through the centre and into a final tube section. Austin Heights also includes two versions of Polin’s Flying
Boats waterslide coaster, where riders can chose to be propelled on rafts along either (or both!) an uphill or downhill path on jets of water. Elsewhere in the park they can slide headfirst down a six-lane Multisurf mat racer.
Taking care of younger guests is an oversized Aquatower waterplay structure with lots of interactive features to keep the little ones busy. Park founder Dato' Ir Steve Chong Yoon On says he was pleased to chose Polin as the supplier of the waterpark attractions, which are a key part of the Austin Heights offering: "We felt confident from the beginning that partnering with Polin was the right choice. Their experience proved to be extremely valuable in all areas.” Further resort facilities should be open by the end of the
year including an “enrichment park”, 300-room hotel, a village mall and convention/banquet hall. When complete, the total investment in Austin Heights Water and Adventure Park will be around RM140 million (US$35m/€31m).
