machines themed with Chinese fortune gods, dragons and lions, a newly-opened slot parlour in Macau provides gamblers with the East meets West touch the city so often boasts of. But there’re some pre- requisites to playing there: gamblers have to ante up HK$100,000 (US$13,000) in membership fees, like the other VIP rooms in the territory. The Grand Prize VIP Club, located in Jimei Casino on the Macau peninsula, has opened amid mounting pressure on the junket segment, which shuttles high rollers from mainland China to the gambling mecca and grants them credit for splurging on games. While the response of the big spenders to this new VIP operation remains to be seen, the club operator is betting on this as its safe boat in this perfect storm with three more coming on-stream this year. Compared to other VIP rooms here, which
