arrier recently expanded its AquaForce Vision 30KAV range of chillers to include an ultra-low global warming potential (GWP), high-performance,
compact process cooling model. The expanded AquaForce Vision 30KAV air-cooled variable-speed screw chiller with Greenspeed intelligence is designed to minimise energy consumption and maximise performance. It has been optimised for industrial applications, such as food manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, plastics, metal industries and applications requiring ultra-reliable cooling. Operating on Hydrofl uoroolefi ns (HFO) R-1234ze, which has a GWP index below one, the range off ers higher cooling capabilities that enable customers to meet the requirements of applications up to 1,300kW. The new units also have a reduced footprint to save space on site and make installation quicker and easier. The expanded range is designed to meet the needs of customers with large industrial cooling loads, and those increasing their process facilities to meet business growth. The new units deliver increased cooling capacity from 530- 1300 kW (12/7°C) and 280-800 kW (-4/-8°C). The use of ultra-low GWP refrigerant of less than one
addresses the requirements of evolving F-Gas legislation to help future-proof end users.
Energy effi ciency
The ultra-low direct GWP of the refrigerant is complimented by the chiller’s outstanding energy effi ciency. All chillers in the range are designed to exceed European Ecodesign effi ciency requirements: the top effi ciency version (option 119+) has a Seasonal Energy Effi ciency Ratio (SEER) of up to 5.55 for comfort cooling applications and a Seasonal Energy Performance Ratio (SEPR) of up to 6.95 for high- temperature process cooling duties. Carrier’s variable-speed twin screw compressor is a key
system component supporting effi cient operation. Equipped with built-in volume index control valves, they enable optimal performance at both full and part load conditions. With Carrier’s Greenspeed intelligence, the compressor constantly adjusts output by matching speed to the cooling load and environmental conditions. The unit can rapidly ramp up or down cooling output to precisely match changing requirements, resulting in signifi cant energy savings. Additionally, variable-speed compressors have a softer start and less frequent on/off cycling, reducing wear and tear and extending working life. On the condensing side, the units feature Carrier’s Flying
Bird fans. Manufactured using a proven injection moulded composite-thermoplastic construction, this helps to further enhance effi ciency by optimising airfl ow. To ensure quiet operation without compromising performance, the AquaForce Vision 30KAV employs Integrated Resonator Array (IRA) technology in the twin screw compressors. This works in tandem with the Carrier Flying Bird fans to deliver super-low noise levels. The chiller’s enhanced noise attenuation proved particularly benefi cial in a recent project at the world- renowned London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). Four AquaForce Vision 30KAV chillers, with a combined cooling capacity of 2,400kW, were installed at the campus as part of a major upgrade of the institution’s air conditioning system. Given the sensitive educational application, ultra-low noise operation was a key design requirement for the project.
