installed over three weeks during the university’s summer recess by Airco Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. Jason says staff in the three departments that share the building are pleased with the new system, which is considerably quieter than the original - the VAM units are rated at 350m3/hr with a sound power of just 51dB. The heat recovery aspect of the VRV and VAM systems improves overall performance and reduces operating costs by using outgoing waste energy to temper incoming refrigerant and airfl ows.
In addition to the sustainability benefi ts of R32, Daikin
VRV5 systems incorporate Shîrudo technology which ensures safe deployment of refrigerants. Its branch selector boxes – which enable the three-pipe DX system to deliver heating and cooling simultaneously to diff erent branches – have been specially designed for R32 and incorporate automatic shutoff valves for each branch to prevent loss of refrigerant.
BBC Earth Experience In another ground-breaking move, Daikin UK is delighted to
sponsor the venue for the spectacular BBC Earth Experience. This unique attraction opened in Earl’s Court on 30 March 2023 and will remain in place for the next two years. The experience takes place in ‘The Daikin Centre’, a purpose-built demountable venue. The Daikin Centre has been designed by Moon Eye

Daikin’s low-carbon climate control systems, including our new VRV 5 Heat Recovery. The Daikin Centre has been designed with a commitment to minimising environmental impact. At the same time, Daikin is dedicated to delivering the highest level of comfort and refi ned air quality inside the building. We installed nine customised air handling units built in Britain, off ering highly fl exible ventilation. The units serve diff erent zones throughout the Daikin Centre, ensuring maximum visitor comfort, and a regulated source of fresh, healthy air. The VRV 5 Heat Recovery was chosen for the front-of- house and fi rst-fl oor educational spaces and staff areas. Outside, the system continues to deliver on effi ciency and
eff ectiveness. The new fi ve low sound steps for the outdoor unit take sound levels down to 40dBa - equivalent to a quiet library. The normal mode sound level has been reduced on average between 1-2dBa compared to the equivalent R410A. The VRV 5 Heat Recovery has been completely redesigned for faster installation and easier servicing. Quick and easy to install, it off ers an all-in-one box solution without any requirement for fi eld-supplied equipment. This proved true for Zircon AC Group, who installed the system at The Daikin Centre. They found it to be a seamless and trouble-free install. Switching to R32 off ers annual energy savings of up to 19%. It also boosts the green building credentials by up to 2 extra BREEAM points. There’s also the embodied carbon to consider. Daikin off ers wide availability of TM65 documentation for these products, showing a decrease of up to 53%.
