Flint Group to host its 12th Annual Narrow Web Print Awards

840. The presentation will take place at 4.00pm, Wednesday, September 14. The criteria for judging follows the standard guidelines set by the industry associations FINAT and TLMI and include: registration, smoothness of dot/vignette, overall print quality, and degree of difficulty. The judges also review each label for creative use of inks and colour. Niklas Olsson, global brand manager, commented: “We encourage printers

to demonstrate the enriched and expanding pallet of applications that are possible using narrow web presses, utilising any print method of their choice – water-based flexo, UV flexo, UV offset, or a combination thereof. “Over the past two years we have seen an increased amount of print submissions coming from other market segments – it’s encouraging to see narrow web grow in pressure sensitive label, but even more so into various segments of the flexible packaging market and shrink sleeves. We are glad to see narrow web printers around the world pushing traditional boundaries.”

CPI appoints new director general

The Confederation of Paper Industries is pleased to announce the appointment of Andrew Large (pictured) as its director general. He will succeed David Workman who is due to step down at the end of September. Large brings with him a

wealth of experience having worked in the Commission in Brussels, in the steel industry and having run two major trade associations, most recently The British Poultry Council. He was also the chairman of the Trade Association Forum between 2008 and 2011. David Workman commented: “My time at CPI has been very rewarding and hugely enjoyable, largely due to the tremendous support that I have received from the team and from the Members. However, the time is now right for a change in leadership, given the Brexit vote

and the changes in government that have ensued.” On his appointment, Large said: “I am delighted to be joining CPI. I have known David for many years and greatly respect his achievements in the role. Post the UK referendum decision, these are especially challenging times for the UK’s paper-based industries and I am looking forward to working with the excellent CPI team to represent this vital industry.”
