Cutting Systems
New cutting machinesboast efficiency and allow for more challenging tasks
NEW DESIGNATIONS FOR 78 AND 92 SCHNEIDER SENATOR GUILLOTINES
Schneider Senator has introduced new versions of its 78 and 92 guillotines for cutting half-size formats. Designated the ‘Compact’ and ‘Advance’ the two new guillotines offer the precision and reliability that small format cutting requires, and do so with ultimate energy efficiency. While both guillotines handle all standard cutting requirements, the ‘Advance’ version has useful additional features that increase its capability of undertaking more challenging production jobs. Key features of the 78 and 92 guillotines
include: 780 or 920mm cutting widths, direct electro-mechanical knife drive, hydraulic clamp bar, and rust-proof stainless steel side tables (with air film on the 92). Both ‘Compact’ and ‘Advance’ versions of the 78
and 92 Schneider Senator guillotines are available from UK and Ireland agent Friedheim International.
BAUMANN-WOHLENBERG ADDS ANOTHER MODEL TO ITS HIGH SPEED CUTTER RANGE
of standard features, including: 18.5-inch touch display; quick knife exchange (with setting gauge); back gauge drive by servo motor (guided on both sides); knife drive with electromagnetic clutch; separate front table aeration (programmable); knife depth control; cutting stick exchange control; automatic adapting of the clamp pressure to the cutting width (programmable). In operation, the new Wohlenberg ‘Basic Line
80’ has a cutting height of 120mm (without false clamp plate) or 113mm (with false clamp plate). Its maximum cutting depth is 800mm and the maximum number of cuts per cycle is 45 per min.
BAUMANN-WOHLENBERG MATERIALS HANDLING SYSTEM HAS MULTIPLE USES The handling of paper and other materials can be simplified both in terms of the process itself and operator well-being by the use of a ‘system’ approach. One such system is offered by Baumann-Wohlenberg, and is made up of a number of different and interchangeable ‘components’, all of which are supplied in the UK and Ireland by Friedheim International. High speed guillotines: Baumann-
Wohlenberg offers high speed guillotines in a range of sizes from 80 to 225cm. All models feature fully automatic touch screen control in an easy-to-read format that allows almost limitless job program storage and enables rapid setting up from one job to another if already stored in the system. The back gauge on Baumann-Wohlenberg
Baumann-Wohlenberg has added another machine to its already extensive range of high speed cutters with the introduction of the Wohlenberg 80 ‘Basic Line’ – a compact, robust and technically precise cutting system. Seen for the first time on the company’s stand at drupa earlier this year, the new cutter boasts a host

guillotines is driven by a servo motor which is particularly advantageous when processing sensitive cutting stock, and positioning of the back gauge is by electronic hand wheel. Among other automated functions is a new knife changing device protection device that is accessible from the front and provides the highest safety standard for the operator. It also offers fine adjustment. In providing an optimised cutting cycle,
Baumann-Wohlenberg guillotines incorporate a precise clamp bar control, side gauges that are produced from extra thick-walled aluminium to ensure a precise square cut, and a precision
transport spindle that operates with linear guiding with re-circulating ball bearings for reduced wear. The guillotine’s table blower is activated only when required during cutting, thereby saving energy, and reducing noise and heat. A wide range of options are also available to
further enhance the capabilities of the Baumann- Wohlenberg guillotine range. Joggers: The company offers a number of
different options for the jogging operation. They have also been designed with a stainless steel air table, which can be tilted both left and right, and which offers variable jogging intensity. It is important for the efficiency of all joggers to
have stable support, in which the table’s up and down movements are precisely guided (no cables are used for stabilisation). The jogging table automatically moves into its inclined jogging position and then back to the working height. The different models available in Baumann-
Wohlenberg’s range of joggers can provide users with the capability of jogging even ‘difficult’ materials, such as metallic papers, pharmaceutical package leaflets or labels, much quicker and easier, and they can also be fitted with scale counters or a pressing stations for add flexibility. Unloaders/Re-stackers: Again, Baumann-
Wohlenberg has several different models of unloaders/re-stackers to choose from, and all provide an ergonomic and economically effective method of re-stacking single and multiple cuts with high precision. Manual re-stacking of paper and cardboard
after the cutting process involves a lot of time and effort, and an unloader offers the opportunity of automating the re-stacking process, thereby greatly increasing productivity. BASA: BASA is said to be the first system
worldwide that is capable of aligning a large variety of materials fully automatically, and meets two important business criteria – ergonomics and cost saving. The BASA is capable of handling are label papers, foils, plasticised items, and perforated and embossed paper and cardboard.
