Meet the needs of demanding customers A
ſter purchasing a VISIONCUT 106 LER, Bernholz Verpackungen, a company with over 50 years of experience in
the printing and packaging industries and is based at Bad Salzuflen in northeast Germany, has significantly expanded its die-cutting production capacity. At the same time, the company is using the machine’s technology, including automatic blank separation, to further strengthen its competitive position in the marketplace. The result is that Bernholz Verpackungen can
now manufacture top-quality blanks more easily and more productively than ever before, allowing it to proactively meet the needs of its demanding customers in Europe’s cigarette and confectionery industries. By investing in the VISIONCUT 106 LER from BOBST, Bernholz has also tapped into growth potential in other industries that impose particularly high demands on quality, such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and food supplements. Explaining one of the key reasons behind the
decision to buy the machine, Torsten Mauk, sales and production at Bernholz Verpackungen, said: “Particularly in the cigarette industry, delivery deadlines have got shorter and shorter in the course of recent years. Today we have two high- performance presses for printing, one of which has eight ink units and two coating units. Our two flat bed BOBST die-cutters were no longer able to keep up with the very high productivity of these machines, which is why we decided to catch up by investing in a third die-cutter.” He says the technology of the VISIONCUT has
raised the company’s die-cutting shop to a new technical level overall. For example, the dynamic, optical lateral register system of the 106 LER guarantees excellent print-to-cut register by using a highly sensitive camera to optionally align the individual sheets on the basis of the sheet edge, special register marks or the print itself. smaller nicks, since acceleration and deceleration of the sheets in the VISIONCUT 106 LER is extremely uniform. Finally, the new full-sheet delivery unit deposits the sheets with hitherto unknown precision, particularly for embossing and creasing operations. All this makes it easier to produce the very highest quality. “In addition to which, setup is much simpler.
That’s another reason why our machine operators were really enthusiastic about the VISIONCUT 106 LER from the word go,” says Mauk. “For instance, the die-cutting forms and plates can be locked and unlocked in a single step, thanks to the new machine’s quick-change concept. Our machine operators no longer need any special tools for the job.” In addition, he says it takes next to no time to switch the VISIONCUT 106 LER from blank separation to full-sheet delivery and vice versa. The machine was delivered in December last
year and put into service within two weeks. “Thanks to their experience and the excellent instruction provided by the experts from BOBST, our machine operators were in a position to more or less fully exploit the machine's capabilities after just two weeks,” recalls Mauk. Bernholz Verpackungen has been working with
die-cutting equipment from BOBST for over 20 years. Consequently, the extreme reliability of the two existing SP 104 and SP 104-ER flat-bed die- cutters was a major point in favour of expanding the company’s co-operation with the Swiss machine manufacturer. Bernholz Verpackungen participates in the Maintenance Plus scheme for the preventive maintenance of its BOBST machines, so as to avoid unscheduled machine stoppages to the greatest possible extent.
