COVER STORY

LEMO (UK) Ltd expands cable assembly production capability T

o meet the growing demand for “plug and play” interconnect solutions, LEMO (UK) is very pleased to announce a 50 per cent expansion of its UK cable assembly service. This significant investment is part of an initiative the company has undertaken to support the growing manufacturing trend for OEM’s to outsource their non-core connector termination activities.

As part of this expansion, the company

has increased its manufacturing capacity and the supporting services behind it. These services not only include a larger applications and design engineering team, but also a fully resourced production support team to ensure service levels are maintained at leading industry levels. LEMO’s aim is to provide its UK customers with increased value by means of offering them a complete cable design and manufacturing service. The objective of this service is to provide customers with bespoke engineered solutions, tailored to specific system requirements and optimised for both performance and manufacturing from the outset. This approach ensures that product costs along with assembly and project lead-times are minimised, without the need for compromises in either performance or quality. As part of offering this complete service, LEMO (UK)

can offer its customers access to a knowledgeable cross-functional team who have gained over 250 years of experience working in the interconnect industry. All cable assemblies produced by LEMO (UK) Ltd are manufactured to exacting quality standards, using highly developed processes and specialist equipment. Furthermore, as part of the quality control process, each and every cable assembly manufactured will undergo an automated 100 per cent electrical validation test to ensure compliance to specification limits. This manufacturing approach gives customers “peace of mind”, knowing that every product supplied by LEMO is of a consistent high quality. With LEMO’s UK manufacturing facility being one of the Group’s leading fibre optic termination sites, assembly technicians are trained to terminate both copper and fibre optic contacts to the highest standards. All technicians are certified to terminate SMPTE hybrid camera cables supplied with the broadcast industry standard LEMO 3K-93C connectors. This cross training ensures that the company has the skills and resources required to manage the largest of projects involving both copper and fibre or a combination of the two.

Furthermore, LEMO (UK) can also offer

Peter Dent, managing director, LEMO (UK) Ltd

its customers an “in-house” bespoke cable manufacturing service through its sister company, Northwire. Typical end markets for the cable assemblies produced by LEMO (UK) Ltd include, but

are not limited to, Broadcast, Medical, Motor Sport, Defence, Test & Measurement and Nuclear.

LEMO (UK) Ltd launches MULTISHACK SMPTE conversion systems

A

t BVE 2017, LEMO (UK) was delighted to announce the launch of the Group’s MULTISHACK SMPTE conversion

systems. These broadcast network systems have been specifically designed for temporary events such as golf, skiing, tennis and auto-sport, where a large number of camera systems are remotely operated. This portable system enables customers to remotely power cameras and transmit HD video signals over large distances in a cost effective and consistent manner. The MULTISHACK conversion system consists of two main units, where up to 6 x SMPTE camera cables can be consolidated and the video data transmitted up to a distance of 8- 10km through a single multi-way fibre cable. At one end of the system a Van End Unit is connected to an Outside Broadcast (OB) Truck via industry standard hybrid SMTPE 311 Cable / LEMO 3K.93C connectors, while at the remote end of the multi-way fibre cable, a Camera End Unit connects up to 6 high-definition cameras via industry standard Hybrid SMTPE 311 Cable / LEMO 3K.93C connectors. Cameras are then remotely powered via the standard SMPTE

hybrid cable by 400-watt power supplies housed in the camera unit, which in-turn are connected to a standard generator. Each camera can in-turn be placed within 1.5-2km from the camera unit, enabling HD video to be broadcast from the remotest of locations. Each camera is powered by an individual power supply fitted with circuit breaker, which protects the equipment from over current. In addition, Camera Units are fitted with dual power changeover switches to ensure video signals are not lost in the event of a power source failure. All interfaces are fitted with LEMO’s range of

broadcast connectors and therefore system losses are kept to a minimum and within the industry standards.

In addition to its range of MULTISHACK conversion systems, LEMO (UK) will highlight its extensive range of other media converter systems which include SERBAL; HD/SDI to fibre converter, MEERKAT; HD triax to fibre converter and SHACK; SMPTE to duplex fibre converter.
