Jenbacher

New version type 3 D

The new version of GE’s Jenbacher type 3 D gas engine is based on the following main improvements:

• Better charge cycle • New oil cooler for higher return temperatures (for J312 D and J316 D)

• Improved turbocharger performance for less derating (for the J316 D)

• 3,333-operation hour (oph) minimal maintenance interval step (instead of 2,000 oph)

• Minor overhaul at 40,000 oph and major overhaul now at 80,000 oph one-third longer engine life

Efficiency increase

A new electric water pump and a bigger plate-type oil-heat exchanger for the J312 D engine have slightly improved efficiency and significantly enhanced heat integration flexibility at high return temperatures. The addition of an improved cam shaft profile, enhanced cylinder head geometry and de-throttled turbocharger will reduce pressure losses on the J312 D, J316 D and J320 D engines. Furthermore, the bigger oil cooler on the J316 D engine allows for higher return temperatures and the continued use of oil heat.

Benefits • Increase electrical efficiency of 0.5 to 1 percent point, depending on the engine version

• No impact on reliability and availability • New bigger oil coolers on the J312 D and J316 D engines increase - CHP flexibility and enables high thermal efficiency with return temperatures up to 80°C and higher

Status

J312 D is available since September 2013 for 50 Hz applications, the J316 D and J320 D engines are available since mid 2014. Please contact our CommOps team for detailed commercialization plan and application limitations.

40/80 thousand-oph maintenance schedule

Function New main and con-rod bearings, as well as a new cylinder head and blow-by system, are the main components contributing to the high reliability of the type 3 D engines. They also make possible a new maintenance schedule that allows a longer, 3,333-operation hour (oph) minimal interval step, a minor overhaul at 40,000 oph, and a major overhaul at 80,000 oph.

Benefits • One-third longer engine life • Significant reduction in service costs • Reduced downtime due to 40 percent fewer maintenance stops • Possible longer depreciation period, which would lower depreciation rates

Status Introduced in 2014 for all type 3 D engines and J312 400 kW versions, 50 Hz natural gas and clean biogas only. With product program 2016 as well valid for J208C.

With the product program 2016 the staged introduction of the new generation type 3 D will be continued for 50 Hz applications. With 2015 as well the J320 D and J316 is released for grid parallel operation and island mode. With 2016 all engines have a gas mixer as standard.
