Where the vehicle has to be over 3½ t in weight, such as the larger tankers, cleaning units or combi units, there are other problems and options to overcome them. As well as the ones previously mentioned about overstressing axles etc, there is always the problem with the larger vehicles of where to store and safely transport road traffic signs, spares and other additional items that the client may want over time.
With the larger vehicles there is also the problem that during operations the weight balance will change as work proceeds. What starts out as clean water will become dirty sediment laden water which even on recyclers will caused the vehicle weight to rise as sediment is taken out of the flow and stored in a tank. At the same time fuel is being used so reducing the weight.
Recent increases in the amount of data gathering that is required by client companies and contractors has also meant that there are new (if small) items of equipment such as sensors and monitoring systems which all add to the overall weight balance calculation, as does the additional facility to connect remotely to data transfer and or WiFi systems so get this data to a central office. All of these things are small weight additions, but additions none-the-less.
As an example of the type of equipment in this market, one manufacturer that has been manufacturing high and ultra-high pressure water jetting machines for over 20 years and
providing a complete range of units catering to all sectors of the drainage industry is Jetchem.
Looking back over the years there has been a dramatic change in the way a pack is manufactured, for instance Jetchem’s most popular choice of jetter, the van mounted range, has seen huge improvements with the original jetting packs starting out as a bespoke unit which was then mounted onto a chassis cab. These eventually evolved into a stand-alone pack which is what we see in a lot of today’s vehicles. Much has changed over the years and the company portfolio of units now consists of:
• Electric trolley jetters • Petrol and diesel trolley jetters • Electric skid jetters • Petrol and diesel trailer jetters
