used at Central Bank of Sudan. A new release of Ambit Core Banking was then announced in May 2012. In part, the task has been to bring all of the customised work into the core, from the likes of Erste Bank, Faysal Bank, Arab Banking Corporation, ICICI Bank, MCB and United Bank Limited. Release 8.5 also included collateral management and liquidity management functionality within the core, stemming from the supplier’s Focus ALM product, which was acquired in 2001 from a company based in Switzerland, Almafin, and of late brought under Sungard’s Bancware brand. In terms of the overhauled architecture, the first rewritten components were the customer file and collateral management, with these apparently delivered to Erste Bank by the time the release was announced and being implemented in its Hungarian operations. With 9.0, scheduled for the second half of 2012, the last of the


Oracle Forms technology was apparently due to be removed at long last. One benefit would be to allow a DB2 version of the system if there was the requirement. There was still PL/SQL at the back-end


(ESB) integration project (IBM Websphere Message Broker).but this was not specific to Oracle. At the front-end, Sungard had moved to Adobe Flex technology, which supports browsers and smart clients, plus a new online solution supporting web, mobile and tablet devices, Ambit MyMoney, and it had also embedded a Business Process Management component, IPP, so that all parts of the system now used this.


Of the existing customers, ICICI Bank, which uses the system for its corporate lending book, had recently moved to Release 8.5. Arab Banking Corporation uses the system in Tunisia and had upgraded here as well as implementing in Egypt, recently in Jordan and with the promised cut-over now apparently due shortly in Algeria. It had a single code base, 8.3.1, with each of the country systems running from a data centre in Bahrain. In terms of new sales, there was one in Q1 2012 at Crown Agents, notable as a new name deal per se, with these fairly scarce of late, but also by virtue of being in Western Europe.
