Catch the Vision Fuel for Conversation
by Arnold Tiessen
I bought a truck in Alberta, so I flew into Calgary to pick it up. When I arrived at the dealership, I introduced myself to the salesman. He was a young man of 26 of East India descent with a great personality. He went to get the truck while I looked around. When I climbed into the truck, the dash was flashing LOW FUEL, but he assured
me there would be enough fuel to go for our test drive. Well, a mile down a fairly busy highway the truck ran out of gas! So I pulled onto the median and looked over at him, and he said, “You are joking, right?” While we waited for gas to show up, I noticed the ring on his hand and asked him
if it was his wedding ring. “No, I can’t wear my wedding ring because the stars say it doesn’t suit me.” He told me he is superstitious and can only do what the “stars” tell him. I explained to him that he should honor the Maker of the stars instead of the stars. Aſter a few minutes of in-depth talk, our gas showed up, and we finished the test
drive. Back at the dealership he tells me of his wife back in India, his plans for their future, and that he is a Buddhist “but I don’t do all the praying and stuff.” I explained to him about Jesus and what he has done for him. I had a great conversation with him about my faith. When all the paper work was done, and I was ready to drive home, he met me at
the truck, and I asked him if I could pray for him. He said “Yes.” I put my hand on his shoulder and prayed for him, his wife, their future, and for his salvation. When I was done he looked up at me with a look on his face and said, “Call me some time, I want to know more about your God.”
