Tuddenham-St-Martin to Akenham: Finds made at this location suggest the presence of Roman-period buried archaeology


Akenham to Claydon: Tithe map assessment has identified the sites of numerous former (post-medieval) cottages within the onshore study area. In addition, extensive metal detecting survey has recovered artefacts of multiple periods. The Roman date artefacts could indicate buried archaeology at this location

Claydon: Metal-detecting fieldwork has recovered artefacts that indicate Saxon- period buried archaeology at this location


Bramford: Margary’s Roman road 3c is proposed at Pye Lane, Bramford. Bronze Age activity is also proven in this area, however, extensive post- medieval extractive industries are also prevalent which may have served to reduce the preservation potential of below-ground deposits between Tye land and Pound Lane

Conversely, recovery of multi-period find-spots clustered north of Playford is assumed to be associated with the historic development of the village itself. The potential for settlement evidence is likely to be contained within the sheltered landscape position of the village, rather than indicative of potential within the more exposed agricultural landscape of the Onshore Cable Route.
