LIMITATIONS & RESTRICTIONS (WHAT IF I WANT TO SERVE, BUT THERE ARE NO VACANCIES ON THE COMMITTEE, OR I HAVE LIMITED TIME AND RESOURCES?).
The Maintenance Committee is a very active group of volunteers. The dynamics of the initiatives presented to the Committee have an eff ect on the makeup of the membership. The Policy Guide provides for a minimum membership number, but no maximum. Membership levels are determined by the Committee chairman, in cooperation with the Leadership Team. There are several subcommittees within the Maintenance Committee that work on the initiatives. These subcommittees often have opportunities for volunteers to engage with the Committee at the working group level. The subcommittees utilize technology media outside of face-to-face meetings, off ering individuals the opportunity to participate in specifi c topics of interest without extensive travel requirements. Engaging with the Maintenance Committee initially at a subcommittee working group level is the recommended pathway to full membership, as it allows individuals to contribute while sorting through the decision process of time, travel and resource commitments on the individual and the member company.
HOW DO I GET INVOLVED? Due to the overwhelming interest and requests for membership, a nominating subcommittee exists to sort individuals by their specifi c interests and member category. This is accomplished in cooperation with the Leadership Team in order to maintain the correct balance necessary to advance the initiatives and tasks assigned to the subcommittees.
The application process involves fi ling an application with the NBAA. An on-line application can be found on the NBAA website (
www.nbaa.org). Additionally, a prospective member profi le is requested from each applicant and is submitted to the nominating subcommittee. This aids in identifying and recommending candidates by verifying qualifi cations along with identifying the individual’s specifi c areas of interest for service. Interested individuals can contact Eli Cotti or any Maintenance Committee member. For a list of members, visit: http://web.
nbaa.org/member/about/committees/ maint/ and click on the full committee roster link (must be logged in as an NBAA member to view).
AM I REIMBURSED FOR EXPENSES INCURRED WHILE
SERVING ON THE COMMITTEE? No. No one serving on the Committee receives compensation or reimbursement of their expenses.
DOES MY FLIGHT DEPARTMENT HAVE TO BE LARGE IN ORDER TO QUALIFY?
Absolutely not! Maintenance Committee members select new Committee members from the NBAA membership in consultation with the Maintenance Committee Leadership Team and the Staff Liaison.
WHERE DO I FIND THE APPLICATION?
The application can be found on the Maintenance Committee page on the NBAA website:
http://www.nbaa. org/about/leadership/committees/ maint/.
Look for the box “JOIN AN NBAA STANDING COMMITTEE”, and click on the link: “Apply to participate on an NBAA Standing Committee.”
