NBAA NBAA MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP BY MARLIN PRIEST, MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE MEMBER

COULD IT BE IN YOUR FUTURE?

FROM TIME TO TIME, MEMBERS OF THE NBAA MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE RECEIVE INQUIRIES AND QUESTIONS REGARDING WHO WE ARE, WHAT WE DO AND HOW INDIVIDUALS MIGHT GET INVOLVED. HERE ARE ANSWERS TO A FEW OF THE MORE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.

WHAT IS THE MAINTENANCE

COMMITTEE’S PURPOSE? As stated in NBAA Policy Guide, the NBAA Maintenance Committee, as authorized by the NBAA Board of Directors, exists at the pleasure of the board. Its primary purpose is “to address the high level strategic issues pertinent to the maintenance operations of the member companies so as to keep safety at its highest level.”

In pursuing this purpose, the committee is presented with many issues confronting member companies ranging from technician training standards and reliability/maintainability of aircraft, to occupational and environmental safety/ regulatory issues. In addition, broad- based, industry-wide issues like maintenance technician recognition, career path and professional development (with development of maintenance specifi c courses), conferences and scholarships (and the administration of the scholarship programs) come before the committee. As issues are presented, the Maintenance Committee determines an eff ective course of action. This action plan is then submitted to the Board of Directors for approval. If approved, the action plan is implemented by the committee.

ON THE COMMITTEE? The Committee consists of volunteer maintenance management personnel representing the many NBAA membership categories as defi ned by NBAA bylaws. This includes corporate, business, business aviation contractor, and associate member companies. In addition, the Maintenance Committee extends a position to the FAA, NTSB, and other business aviation stakeholders in an honorary industry member category. Each of these categories has specifi c requirements that members must meet in order to participate.
