GREECE – INTRALOT STRENGTHENS ITS POSITION Greek company INTRALOT, which operates the popular numerical game of Tinka and is the leading lottery and sports betting company in Peru, has announced plans to further consolidate its operations in Peru and strengthen its position as market leader. In order to achieve its goals the company will invest over US$4m to expand its outlets from 3,600 at to 5,000 by the end of next year.

Vangelis Apostolakopoulos, Intralot CEO, explained that cus- tomers will be able to monitor bets on site via televisions and gaming machines. “We are now investing more in facilities and we are going to spend from US$2,000 to US$4,000 on each site,” he said.

The refurbishing and modernisation of its betting shops will go hand in hand with the other activities it offers such as live sports betting. The company launched its in live sports bet- ting in June which allows customers to bet on football matches. The company is also in talks with a number of local celebrities as well as a new football team over the promotion of its products. It is also in the process of increasing the number of sales points for its popular instant product Rapitinka. Combined this will strengthen further the 95 per cent market share it already has over the lottery and sports betting market in the region.

For Intralot, however, the market still has great potential for further growth. According to Mr. Apostolakopoulos penetra- tion of gambling is still low compared to other countries in the region as it currently stand at US$5 per capita, compared to US $13 in Ecuador and US $31 in Chile.

Year on year growth is estimated to stand at 16 percent to 18 per cent this year. This will be lower rate of growth compared to 2014 which increased by 30 per cent due to FIFA World Cup in Brazil which saw a surge in interest in sports betting locally.

Playtech ONE software and games enabled across all channels and devices including new Mecca Max handhelds UK - Bingo

Playtech’s pioneering omni-channel content has been launched across Mecca Bingo’s entire prod- uct range including its new Mecca Max handheld devices enabling the leading brand to offer players the ultimate gaming experience.

The ground-breaking, ‘anywhere-anytime’, seamless connection of Playtech ONE omni- channel games and systems across every channel and device – including Mecca’s retail, online, mobile and 12,000 in-hall bingo handheld termi- nals – is the first time a supplier has successfully launched a combined bingo software and content strategy.

As part of the initial omni-channel content launch, Playtech’s best performing slot games, Adventures in Wonderland and Heart of the Jungle, have gone live across all channels and devices, including handhelds, and will be central to an

extensive in-store and online promotional cam- paign Mecca is planning to launch in the coming weeks. The move follows the launch earlier this year of Playtech’s industry-leading retail server- based software across Mecca Bingo’s entire suite of 2,300 UK terminals and a number of other suc- cessful omni-channel system integrations includ- ing the pioneering Coral Connect which has seen more than 260,000 customer sign-ups.

The nationwide retail deal, signed in the summer in partnership with SG Gaming, boosted Playtech’s already sizeable share of the UK LBO market and is its largest ever within the UK retail bingo sector. It also complements its existing long- term online bingo partnership with Mecca, a key, tier-one Playtech licensee.

Playtech Retail powers 40,000 terminals globally offering a full enterprise management system for land-based venues and providing licensees with complete operational control. Using powerful back office management tools, the system pro- vides operators with all the tools they require to successfully run and manage their businesses giv- ing them full site control and control of their estate and player base.

Czech Republic A raise in taxes on gambling winnings is due in 2016 for the Czech Republic. Lawmakers have already approved the initial bill, but still have two more readings to get through before it becomes finalised. If approved, the country is looking to generate an additional $81.2m each year from gaming. Sports betting and lottery winnings will go from 20 per cent to 23 per cent. All slot winnings will be taxed at a 28 per cent rate. Last month government officials announced that they would scale back on the planned tax increases for the gaming and betting industry and commented that they were planning on increasing rates for slot machine play. An additional daily tax on each slot machine would rise to 80 crowns from 55. The original increase was supposed to be 25 per cent, but it was edged up to 28 per cent.
