2016 preview | Polymers and additives
9156-02 is a big advantage for inserting the seals into the fittings—a mechanical process in which lubrication increases speed and helps to prevent rejects,” says Stef Hordijk, General Sales Manager for the Thermoplastic Elasto- mer Division of Teknor Apex. “Fittings with lubricated seals also facilitate pipe insertion, which is done by hand at the construction site.” Compared to traditional rubber, both
grades offer better retention of sealing force and improved stress relaxation at elevated temperature. Both can also be processed by two-component moulding with PP or other TPVs.

TER Plastics Polymer Group will launch two new LFT products at K2016 pitched at the growing market for structural parts. Terez PA66 7500 HGL50 and Terez GT2 HGL50 provide glass fibre contents of between 30 and 60 % and are available with a granulate length of 6 - 12 mm. The company will also show a new flame retarded short glass fibre reinforced partially aromatic PA grade – Terez HT 200 H G30 FR40- that offers a UL94 V-0 rating and is targeted at metal replacement applica- tions where exposure to high temperatures and water is likely. The new grade also shows good tribological performance, according to the company. Other novel products include a PMMA-based Terez
grade with a special coloration technology for LED applications. The new grade is said to display very good impact performance and light scattering and allows customers to save cost by eliminating LED tapes. The company will also introduce three new POM products from principal Polyplastics. The Duracon M90-57, M270-57 and EX-09 grades carry full food contact approval. ❙

Tolsa Group will display an extended range of flame retardant synergists. The company says its ADINS clay synergists deliver reduced smoke production in PVC and rubber polymer systems. Based on natural silicates, the new grades offer tailored performance benefits including improved processability and reduced cost, while meeting stringent demands for smoke performance due to the use of more stable coatings. Tolsa says the combination of the ADINS additives
with halogen and non-halogen flame retardants in PVC and rubber systems significantly reduces heat release and smoke generation. It says its technology also allows heat and smoke performance to be tailored to

specific requirements. In PVC applications, for example, it says the clay can be modified to achieve good dispersion and interaction with the polymer. Key applications are said to include railway and transporta- tion seating and flooring as well as structural parts, and low, medium and high-voltage cables. ❙

Velox, which is a leading distributor of plastics in Europe, will be presenting the latest introductions from its principals as well as its own compounded products. Estane VSN 9000 is a new thermoplastic PU from Lubrizol Advanced Materials with good dimensional stability, chemical resistance and self healing charac- teristics. It is said to be suitable for use as an alterna- tive to PA12 in applications such as spectacle frames. BondyramTL4530 and TL 4401 are new tie layer products from Polyram Plastic that allow polymers such as PET, PETG and PS to be coextruded with EVOH, PA and PE resins. The company will also launch Vemab PEEK, its own
new family of PEEK-based compounds. The new product line includes glass and carbon fibre reinforced grades, as well as tribologically optimised recipes and customer-specific solutions for extrusion and injection moulding applications. Velox will also be presenting unmodified PEEK which it can supply in three different viscosities in granulate and powder form for compound- ing, extrusion, compression and injection moulding. ❙

Vertellus will introduce a new line of additive master- batches for use as compatibilisers for compounding of PA with recycled PET or as chain extenders to produce branched high relative viscosity (RV) PA grades. The masterbatches are said to lower material and process- ing costs. The company will also promote the use of its
technology in microencapsulation products, which it says are gaining broader use in size regulation of microcapsules for specialty inks, fragrances and temperature-reactive textiles and mattress formula- tions. Other products on show include its line of bio-based plasticisers and additives for enhancing the performance of lightweight automotive parts. ❙

Victrex will be showing its Victrex AE 250 composites, a family of prepreg materials that can be processed by hybrid injection moulding methods to create high performance primary and secondary structures such as mounts, clamps and housings for application in industries such as aerospace. The company says the AE
