applications. “Lumina Royal Dragon Gold provides attractive shades, especially in combination with yellow pigments or in black reduction,” says Marc Dumont, Head of Marketing for Pigments for Plastics at BASF. “Our customers will be able to formulate new looks of greenish gold hues with exceptional sparkling and brilliance.”

solution dissolving in the plastic. “We achieve a high microgranule quality with

Macrolex Gran through a special production process that applies an enormous spray dryer that stretches across three stories,” says Ralf Scholtz, Head of the Colorant Additives business line in Lanxess’s ADD business unit. “The expenditure involved is well worth it because it enables us to supply our customers with a high-tech product for brilliantly colouring plastics that offers both top quality and high cost-efficiency.” Owing to its good metering and dispersion proper-

ties, Macrolex Gran is primarily used for processing in the extruder or on the injection moulding machine. The colourants are soluble in organic solvents and are suitable for colouring amorphous and semi-crystalline plastics, including PS, PET, PC, ABS and PMMA. The company says that Macrolex Gran offers high colour intensity and brilliance and good thermal stability, weather resistance and lightfastness in the final part. Applications include colouration of food packaging, such as PET bottles and children’s toys.

applications

Taking effect The latest addition to BASF’s Lumina Royal pigment product range is Dragon Gold effect. The company says that the new Lumina Royal Dragon Gold EH 0908 is a brilliant green shade gold mica effect pigment that offers the highest lightness and strongest sparkle in styling for yellows and greens. It extends the colour space potential of high chroma shades for packaging, consumer electronics, household appliances, sporting goods and other speciality

and effects to be achieved in a wide range of coloured plastic applications and allows greater formulation flex- ibility. In addition, it can be used for brilliant coating finishes when applied in a high gloss polymer moulding. Lumina Royal Dragon Gold joins five previously launched highly chromatic Lumina Royal pigments including Aqua, Blue, Indigo, Magenta and Copper. Eckart is expanding its SYMIC pigment product range with the introduction of a new highly chromatic gold shade. Pigment C393 is claimed to be versatile, providing good visual appeal with high light refraction and reflectiveness. According to Eckart, this look is created by a combination of a premium synthetic sheet silicate with a coating technology using customised metal oxides. This type of production ensures good colour purity and brilliance and lends the product real colour depth, brilliant gloss and a hint of sparkle, says the company. Like all products in the SYMIC range, the new gold pigment can be used for a number of applica- tions, for instance packaging in the cosmetics and food industries, as well as other decorative purposes. Merck has introduced Iriodin 6111 Icy White

Pristine KU26 – the sixth effect pigment in its Iriodin Icy White series. The company says that it offers pristine purity and KU26 stabilisation technology, which makes it suitable for production of a wide variety of high quality plastic products.

The pigment is based on synthetic mica and has an

ultrafine particle size (1-15 microns). The company says it is a super-white alternative to fine Iriodin pigments based on natural mica. KU26 stabilisa- tion technology prevents yellowing in the dark, says Merck, which sustainably enhances the customer’s end product. Such yellow- ing is caused by chemical

reactions of phenolic antioxidants with untreated titanium dioxide surfaces. As phenolic antioxidants are widely used in plastic applications, the company says there is an increasing demand for a stabilised
