PV Fast Yellow H4G, an alternative to lead chromate products claimed to provide good opacity, light and weather resistance. The new organic pigment also offers three times the colour strength of lead chromate alternatives, which it says means system costs are broadly similar. It can be used with a wide range of polymers, including flexible and rigid PVC. Also new is PV Fast Pink E, which is based on renewable succinic acid and offers up to 38% renewable content. Clariant will announce a new move into the anti-coun- terfeiting sector at K2016. The company says it will reveal an exclusive technology partnership for plastics applications with a “well known player” in taggant technology. According to Jan Sültemeyer, Head of Global Innovation & Product Management Additive Masterbatches in Clariant’s Masterbatch Business Unit, the new system is based on the use of inorganic taggants that are invisible under normal lighting conditions but provide a characteristic fluorescence when excited by specific laser light. This allows a unique marker system to be developed for a specific client or application. “We will not be selling this by the kilo but as a system,”


Sültemeyer says. “We have worked with other taggant suppliers before but took a kilo approach; this does not work. You have to have full control of masterbatch security and also of the scrap. The brand owner needs support.” In the pigments sector, the company will introduce


its Exolit OP1400 grade, a new addition to the range targeted at PA compounds for production of injection moulded parts for the E&E market. It is said to offer good electrical properties while allowing high flow rates to be achieved in thin wall sections. It is also compatible with laser marking technologies. The company will also introduce Addworks LXR920, a non-halogenated flame retardant developed for use in thin gauge polyolefin roofing sheet. The company says the new amine-based product does not generate smoke or odour during processing. It also provides UV protection. ❙ www.clariant.com


Covestro will show it latest material developments for 3D printing, including a range of filaments, powders and liquid resins offering properties such as toughness and heat resistance as well as transparency and flexibility. The company offers filaments produced from flexible thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU) and high strength polycarbonate (PC). Covestro says that its TPU is ideal for additive manufacturing and offers good abrasion resistance and elasticity. Typical applications include sports, footwear and automotive. Covestro PC grades
