side-by-side to compare twin-screws to the TriVolution, says Alan Malott, Process Engineer and Product Manager of Mixing Systems at B&P. “Questions include: what size machine do I need; what is the best configu- ration for an individual formulation; what is the best configuration for multiple formulations; and what is the maximum fill level? We like our customers to be involved in the trial with everything from learning how the machine operates and how we change configuration to how the pelletising process works,” says Malott. B&P also offers a rental lab unit, which is designed

for trials at the customer’s facility rather than at the B&P facility. “This lets them test multiple formulations and allows for a greater number of people to witness the trials, compared to sending someone to our pilot lab,” says Malott. “The equipment can be leased for as long as required, which removes the time restraints of scheduling tests in our facility.” Feddem offers its FED 52 MTS twin-screw extruder

(with processing lengths of 32, 42, or 52 L/D) for experimental use in its pilot plant. The system includes up to up to thirteen metering feeders, three side extruders, vacuum degassing, strand pelletising, a

grading screen, a spiral conveyor, suction conveying, a bagging machine with scales and many other items (Feddem’s 26-mm laboratory-scale MTS extruder was detailed in Compounding World’s December 2015 issue). Coperion runs three Test Labs – in Stuttgart, Germany; Pitman, New Jersey (US); and in Nanjing, China—with a total of 30 compounding lines and systems available for testing. Both Coperion’s lab and
