Stand of Polish Cooperative Grzybek Łosicki – very French!

The first training panel was provided by Harry Hesen from Sylvan NL and concerned questions of climate control in general, both in the production process and mushroom growing with the emphasis on evaporation. Climate control is undoubtely one of the most important elements in mushroom production, because of its influence on potential harvest and quality. The key issue of climate control is to achieve the proper balance of temperature and absolute humidity in order to optimize the production process. Hesen presented drawbacks connected with too low evaporation (eg. poor spread, shorter shelf life and late harvesting) but also the disadvantages of an excessive evaporation (eg. mycelium drainage, scaling and cap disco- louration). The evaporation lecture was followed by a more worklabour concerned workshop on task assignement and employee motivation. The 3-hour workshop was meant to provide an

opportunity to improve skills of team manage- ment for more efficient cultivation, maintaining quality and improving production efficiency. The participants, mostly production managers in mushroom farms, took part in practical exerci- ses and discussions aiming at experience exchange and working out new solutions. The workshop was held by Monika Topór-Pamuła, a trainer and business consultant who collected her practical know-how from cooperation with some leading Polish and foreign companies. Those who stayed at the fairgrounds could take part in a journey to the history of mushroom growing that was offered by Frederic Matthieu, the director of Euromycel. The trade event featured other activities like football matches and a culinary event in the city center, where the citizens of Siedlce could enjoy fried mushrooms, as well as the traditional mushroom ball, where the industry awards were given to the winners.
