At the fair
One could also collect possitive impressions from visiting the stands and talking to mayor players on the mushroom market in Poland. The time of maybe some oversizing and wild investments in Eastern Poland is over, but the existing farms and compost producers did not particulary limit their production, and opinions were expressed, that there is still not enough compost in Poland. Some companies eg. Gluchowski even started to produce their own compost. Big spawn companies were proudly presenting their newest developments – myce- lium carriers. Amycel advertises Onyxx as the perfect mix of millet grain and sythetic sub- strate, designed to give the grower more points of inoculation while providing all of the nutritio- nal benefits of traditional spawn. Beneficial for farmers is particulary the shorter mycelium growth as it allows for energy savings. Visitors to the Sylvan stand on Pieczarkalia 2016 could learn more about the benefits of MYLO, that offers - according to the company experts - the perfect combination of rapid spawn growth, uniform
output and an easy to handle product. Constantly developing is also the Polish spawn producer Spyra. This family company has been into mushroom business for the third generation already and is preparing to celebrate its 30th anniversary. The company Kania has been investing into modernisation of ist plants to secure highest possible compost quality, and Holpol (CNC) is aiming at increasing stability, investing into their workers team as well as providing services for the external clients using their own new equipment. At their stand we also learned that the market for exotic mushrooms in Poland is growing, as more and more people are willing to try them in the kitchen. The hot issue for the entire branch are at the moment new anti odour regulations to be introduced by the Polish authorities. Jakub Janeta, lawyer and co-worker of the company Stec thinks a bill that completely bans odour emissions would be killing for the whole sector, and therefore important are all the bottom-up initiatives which work towards introducing a ‘best practice’ code followed by a reasonable bill draft.
