NEWS New Pleurotus carrier Sylvan S

pawn producer Sylvan launches a new Pleurotus carrier, called Sonic, ‘to help customers achieve significantly faster time to market’, according to a press release by the company

mid October.

According to Sylvan, Sonic Pleurotus is the first in a series of Sonic innovations, and it has been shown in independent customer trials to shorten spawn run time by nearly 15% and maintain Sylvan’s failsafe product quality.

Sonic is the result of extensive research into a new carrier, enriched with a high power nutrient blend to shorten spawn run. The results of the trials on the Pleurotus (HK35) strain are clear, says Sylvan: ‘Sonic slashes spawn run time by at least two days with no change to standard equipment, process or spawn rate’. Following pilot trials at a single location, Sylvan set up larger scale customer trials to measure the performance of the spawn through four key parameters: temperature patterns as a spawn activity indi- cator, first pinning day, picking date and yield. Carried out at four different growing locations in France, Spain, Italy and Hungary in January 2016, the HK35 strain was grown in parallel with a control batch at each location. ‘It showed a consistently improved perfor- mance against control, with a marked temperature surge two days ahead, first pinning two days ahead, and first picking day two days ahead (based on average timing and yield in 12 test runs)’.

Delphy advises in China I 4 MUSHROOM BUSINESS

n August and September, climate specialist Jan Gielen of Delphy Mushrooms visited China and gave a climate training at the factory of Kingfit Environment Co., Ltd. in Lishui (province Zhejiang) China.

About 25 employees were theoretically and practically trained on climate related subjects like evaporation processes, the Mollier diagram, air handling and air distribution.

Kingfit Environment Co., Ltd. is one of the main Chinese producers of refrigerating and heating equipment for industrial and agricul- tural purposes. This also includes air handling equipment for the mushroom industry, in which Kingfit is active. The company has over 300 employees and an 80,000 m2 factory site. During his (first) China tour, Gielen also visited various enoki and white button mushroom production facilities that were interested in knowhow and solutions related to climate technology.
