Imagery is created when a writer uses visually descriptive language. Tis helps the reader/ audience to develop mental pictures. Imagery helps a writer to communicate ideas effectively and to appeal to the imagination of the reader or audience.


Juliet’s soliloquy at the start of this scene is rich in imagery that expresses her impatience to hear the message from Romeo. For example, she imagines that love’s messengers should deliver news quickly, ‘Love’s heralds should be thoughts, / Which ten times faster glide than the sun’s beams’. Here the imagery is of messages of love moving at the speed of light.
