10 QUESTIONS WITH... PAUL JAKEWAY

Each month we ask a cleaning industry professional the Tomorrow’s Cleaning 10 Questions. This month, we chatted to Paul Jakeway, Marketing Director at Deb Group UK.

Q1

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB?

Honestly, a part time shelf stacker/ trolley pusher at a supermarket that’s no longer in business whilst I was at college. My first full job was as Marketing Assistant at healthcare company SSL International, where I worked for the global marketing for surgical products.

Q2 Q3 Q4

HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE CLEANING INDUSTRY?

During my time at Newell Rubbermaid, I was responsible for their professional brands in EMEA, including IRWIN Tools and Rubbermaid Commercial Products and their range of washroom, food storage, cleaning, janitorial and waste management categories.

WHICH THREE WORDS DESCRIBE YOUR

PERSONALITY? Driven, passionate and fun (well, I think so anyway!).

IF YOU COULD VISIT ONE PLACE IN THE WORLD,

WHERE WOULD YOU GO AND WHY? To see the aurora borealis (northern lights) – I think that it would be a breath taking experience.

Q5

HOW WOULD YOU IMPROVE THE CLEANING INDUSTRY?

Make hand hygiene and skin care a priority for all organisations and their workforce.

Q6 Q7

IF AN INTERN WERE TO START TOMORROW,

WHAT’S THE ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE THEM? Talk to people – it’s the best way of learning and keeping to deadlines.

IF YOU WON THE LOTTERY TOMORROW, HOW WOULD

YOU SPEND YOUR FORTUNE? Depending on the total of the win, I’d start with taking all my friends

and family on holiday for the trip of a lifetime, then buy a football team (ideally Derby County), make some sound investments and finally buy my own island somewhere tropical.

Q8 Q9

IF YOU COULD HOST A DINNER PARTY AND INVITE

ANY THREE PEOPLE, DEAD OR ALIVE, WHO WOULD THEY BE AND WHY? Winston Churchill, for the stories he’d tell, Bobby Moore, also for the stories he’d tell, and Jimmy Carr to keep us all entertained.

WHAT, DO YOU THINK, IS THE FUTURE OF THE

CLEANING INDUSTRY? Technological developments will shape the future of the industry for sure. Smart products and services that not only perform efficiently but encourage higher standards of cleanliness and hygiene.

Paul Wilkes, Managing Director of Polaris Plastics, asks:

Q10

WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE

EXPERIENCE WITHIN THE CLEANING INDUSTRY? There are many to choose from but I would have to say it was the launch of the DebStoko Global Product Range – the world’s most comprehensive range of skin care and hand hygiene products designed for all user needs across all workplace environments.
