Paul Mulready explained: “We have a lot of
environmentally accredited products within our portfolio. We were the first in
our industry to get the Ecolabel, and a big
“And what the Ecolabel means is that we comply to lots of different processes all the way through, from how the raw material is supplied, all the way through to the end product, and we have to make sure that the manufacturing process meets fairly rigorous standards, to make sure it is all environmentally friendly.”
further is their Optimum ProWipers range. A bit more niche than their Bay West or Optimum Professionals compatriots, the ProWipers range is focussed more at heavy industry, in places like printing presses, automotive industries and oil rigs, offering a practical alternative to the classic cleaning rags of ripped up t-shirts, underwear and other items of clothing.
And Bill Cooper, Brand Manager of Optimum ProWipers, said that this range is something that makes them stand out from their rivals in the disposables market. He said: “We don’t want to be a ‘me too’ operator, we want to have things that are different to what other people have, with different packaging and dispensing that stands out to other people.
Although you may think that not much can be done in the way of innovation when it comes to paper towels and loo roll, Paul added that it is another facet of Disposables
percentage of our products comply with this, and it is something that the customers like.
“It’s something that we’re very proud of and that we do drive. I think from an end user’s perspective, there might be other considerations that they might think of first, but the fact that
we’ve got this Ecolabel certification as well certainly makes a bit more of a difference to our end users, as more and more are becoming a bit more environmentally conscious.

UK that they are proud of. He said: “We have quite an active New Product Development programme, and we launched the new Hybrid dispenser at the Cleaning Show in March, which is quite unique in that it holds two high capacity hand towel rolls, and it will go from one to the other automatically.
“We’ve also introduced the new Impressions range of tissue to target the more aspirational end user market – five-star hotels, boutique hotels, and so on – it’s a three-ply toilet tissue and a more luxurious hand towel, which is laminated and embossed to give it more of a luxurious, softer feel. So we do drive new products all the time.”

“When it comes to cleaning rags, our competitors don’t look at or understand the market, but we do. In these sectors, they don’t want a little box of wipes, they want something that feels big and nasty, so what we’ve done is take a first grade product and make it look second grade to get it into the market.”
But while it may share the Optimum name, Bill insists that the ProWipers range is still its own brand. He said: “It’s run more or less as a separate business, but there is a lot of crossover because Optimum Professionals is essentially tissue products in various forms, but the ProWipers pick up from where Optimum leaves off.
“Although our resources are in the Professionals side, the intention is at some stage that ProWipers will have its own brand – although it does have its own identity now anyway, because of the different markets that we go into. But the ProWipers range is the fastest growing part of the business at the moment, because it’s different, it’s unique and it’s a good product.”
