FLOORCARE & MAINTENANCE

The Future Of Floorcare

The cleaning industry is a very exciting sector to be a part of at the moment, as it seems that you can’t go a week without hearing of a new product, machine or innovation from any one of the sector’s big names.

Vax Commercial is one such company that has been going through something of a purple patch lately, having already unveiled three new products this year. So we sat down with Martin Farmer, National Sales Manager at Vax Commercial, to chat about these new arrivals, what’s next and what the future may hold for the world of floorcare.

For starters, could you give us a bit of background about

yourself, what your role is within Vax Commercial, how long you have been there and so on?

MF

From managing bars and restaurants, I took the plunge

into a sales career at the age of 25 when I started working for Sony. After 12 successful years, my experiences lead me to embarking on a new career at Vax in 2012. In 2014, I took on the National Sales Manager role for the Commercial division.

Vax’s reputation as a market-leading domestic brand is well-documented and the opportunity to take responsibility for this new business unit was not to be missed. The team’s passion to succeed and grow is contagious and we are making on- going significant improvements to our range, systems and processes, which

Vax Commercial recently announced the arrival of the

VCSD-03 hard floor spot washer, the VCW-06 carpet washer and the VCC- 08A vacuum cleaner. What other new products are on the horizon? Can you tell us a bit more about them?

MF

The backing of our global parent company, TTi, gives Vax

Commercial considerable benefits: not only do we have our own design, development and engineering teams, but this also gives us access to significant investment in research and development, plus round-the-clock collaborative design programmes.

This enables us to maintain a continual innovation schedule and to launch a range of cutting-edge machines, designed to meet the needs of cleaning professionals. The VCSD- 03, VCC-08A and VCW-06 are great examples of a true ‘ground up approach’; we work with our customers to come up with real solutions to everyday cleaning challenges. Our VCC-08 was developed to meet the demand for a lightweight yet robust vacuum cleaner that didn’t topple when pulled around corners, without compromising on performance. We continued to enhance the machine and a few short years later, the brilliant VCC-08A arrived.

It’s not only the focus on innovation and excellent performance that drives us. Things will always need

makes this a challenging and really exciting place to work.

cleaning – and we’re here to make it that little bit easier. So you can expect to see a variety of new Vax Commercial machines launching over the next 12 months that continue with this objective.

Several floorcare companies have recently campaigned for a

move away from mop-based cleaning, instead switching to more effective machinery to do the job. Do you agree with this stance? Why?

MF

Vax Commercial launched the VCSD-03 at the Cleaning Show

back in March, which attracted some serious attention – thanks to our “stop spreading dirty water” ad campaign and the constant demos on our stand.

It has all the convenience of just picking up a mop. It’s compact. It’s lightweight. It’s cordless so there’s no cable to plug in, move or trip over. And what makes it truly great is that it scrubs and sucks up dirty water as it cleans, without spreading it around the floor, giving you a more hygienic clean. The response we’ve had is phenomenal and after two short months we have numerous trials in place with major transport, facilities management and leisure organisations.

Our customers are genuinely amazed by how easy it is to use and we believe the success we’ve already seen with the VCSD-03 is due to the fact that its performance speaks for itself.

How has last year’s legislation from the EU capping vacuum

cleaners to less than 1600 watts affected Vax Commercial, if it has at all?
