10 Questions with... Kim Jones
Each month we ask a cleaning industry professional the Tomorrow’s Cleaning 10 Questions. This month, we chatted to Kim Jones, Sales Director at BPI Recycled Products.
Canada. It’s so diverse. In particular, I have a fascination with North American Indians. My dream is a three week holiday covering all aspects of this country. From the US in the South to the Arctic circle in the North. Not forgetting, whale watching, Niagara Falls, the Great lakes, the Rockies and Banff National Park. There is just so much to see and do and learn about this country.

manufacturer in Swansea; this company later became BPI. I started straight from school as an office junior and progressed through credit control, purchasing, logistics, sales and I eventually became office manager with responsibility for all these functions.

How did you get into the cleaning industry?
By 2000 I was looking for a new challenge and an opportunity came up in external sales with a sister company. In 2001, I transferred into the refuse sack division of BPI Recycled Products and the world of Cleaning and Hospitality opened up to me.

Friendly, honest and capable.
If you could visit one place in the world, where would you
go and why? In all, I was with this
How would you improve the cleaning industry?
By encouraging all involved to use and support the standards that are in place. Universal recognition of the standards will ensure consistency and cost effectiveness.

If an intern were to start tomorrow, what’s the one
piece of advice you would give them? What we do is not an exact science, there is no rule book. You have to keep an open mind and tailor solutions for the customer. We have to be able to adapt to a changing and progressive market place. A ‘can do’ attitude is very important.
What do you do to unwind? Where do I start? Variety is
the spice of life. I hate routine and I try to make no two days the same. I love to travel and I try to find something interesting everywhere I go; even if it is only five miles away from home. It helps that where I live I am surrounded by areas of outstanding beauty. I am a Swansea City football season ticket holder and I also play darts for a local ladies team. Last season a friend and I won the doubles championship from about 70 teams.
I also dabble in the antiques and collectibles market. When at home I like reading, crosswords and Sudoku and I have aspirations to become an accomplished cook, dressmaker and pianist when I can find more time!

If you were stranded on a desert island and you could
only have one thing, what would it
be and why? A radio. I have to have music, any music.

What, do you think, is the future of the cleaning
industry? Cleaning smarter, robust systems, waste avoidance. The environment is important and economy products can still be green and very effective. Fit for purpose is important to delivering a solid platform for delivering efficiencies in cost, labour and materials.

Can cleaning ever really be totally chemical free?
Why not? Consumer attitudes are evolving in line with the environment all the time. It’s about giving people informed choices. Nature has given us everything we require to get the job done. Natural products may cost more at present but if in time if there is scale, costs will reduce.
