STREET CLEANING & GRAFFITI REMOVAL
Sweeping Success
Street cleaning is an essential part of any local council’s remit, so it is important that it is done right. Here, Nilfisk tell us about some of their street sweepers, and how two local councils have put them to good use.
The industrial cleaning equipment market is not known for rapid product innovation, but it was only a few short years ago that grounds care equipment was a separate category from road sweepers. The multi-functional use of sweepers for washing, scrubbing, grounds and winter maintenance tasks was once the biggest street cleaning challenge in the European market.
Stakes were high as truly multi- functional machines would reduce both purchasing volumes and fleet sizes. As a result the customer can enjoy a wide range of benefits including lower financial investment, a reduction in spare parts and a lower requirement for operator and technician training. The multi-purpose vehicle can be transformed via fast hydraulic connections; from a road sweeper to grass cutter in minutes.
The Nilfisk Group has made significant progress in this sector

over recent years following the successful acquisition and integration of the Danish manufacturer Egholm. The Nilfisk Outdoor Division now provides a complete range of versatile multi-purpose utility vehicles with a full arsenal of attachments and capabilities. The full portfolio is complemented by flexible finance and purchase options and tailor made service contracts.
So who is driving
the Development? Across the UK it is clear that street cleaning still ranks highly with the public. Customer satisfaction remains high on the agenda for local authorities; the fact is the public care how clean and tidy their streets, car parks and public areas are.
In addition to pure aesthetics, there
is the important issue of health and safety. Car chemicals, road
salt, debris and street sediment all have the potential to pollute our waterways and block storm drains. Street and walkway sweeping also makes surfaces less slippery in light rains and reduces the risk of slips and trips.
