that have risen to the top in their respective professions. Baroness Karren Brady CBE is perhaps most famous for her role as one of Lord Sugar’s Apprentice mentors, but before TV stardom she carved a name for herself in the male- dominated world of football, becoming MD of Birmingham City at the tender age of 23. She shared anecdotes from her long and successful career, giving some particularly insightful advice to women in business.
Sir Ranulph Fiennes, described by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s greatest living explorer, spoke about how the ability to perform under extreme pressure determines success, and another action man completed the line-up. Sir Chris Hoy MBE is Great Britain’s most successful Olympic athlete with six gold medals and one silver. His dedication to achieving excellence on the cycling track, through a punishing training regime, demonstrates that hard work and persistence reaps great rewards. The in-show theatre was packed for all three speakers, who also welcomed questions from the audience after the main sessions.
Another new feature was the Energy Management Trail. Visitors interested in sustainability, waste management and environmental issues didn’t need a sat nav to find relevant exhibitors – a special trail mapped out on the exhibition hall floor directed them to all the latest products and services in this area. This was itself inspired by the success of the Innovation Trail, introduced at last year’s event, which highlighted all the latest, cutting edge products and services to hit the industry.

– and the exhibitors Total Facilities Management (TFM) is a growing trend for this sector, and some of the biggest names in the business took part in the ‘Meet the Buyer’ programme. This feature, launched in 2014 and brought back by popular demand for this year’s show,

gives visitors the chance to pitch their products and services to the procurement teams from some of the UK’s largest FM outsourcing companies. Mitie, Bilfinger, Sodexo, Bellrock, Vinci, Bouygues and CBRE were among those who took part.
More than 10,000 visitors attended this year’s event and this also helped to attract more than 300 exhibitors, eager to break into or consolidate their position in the UK’s ever-expanding FM sector.
Floor care experts, Truvox International, were there to showcase their comprehensive range of floor care machines, which are used in a diverse range of facilities – including leisure centres, schools and retail outlets – right across the country. Stephen Pinhorne, UK National Sales Manager for Truvox International, said: "The mix of quality contacts we have made at the Facilities Show has been quite unique. In three days we have achieved what could have literally taken months. A nice blend of end users, national FM companies and distributors and discussions were of a more sophisticated nature than we might usually expect at similar events. It is highly likely that we will exhibit again in 2016."
GOJO Industries-Europe is globally- renowned for its expertise in hand hygiene and infection control, offering a range of innovative dispensing systems and hand care products that are suitable for facilities such as healthcare settings, industrial sites, offices and much more. Tim Harris, National Account Manager with GOJO Industries-Europe, added: "The Facilities Show provided an opportunity for GOJO to share our expertise in skin health and hygiene practices and systems. The show successfully allowed us to meet a high quality cross section of the FM market. If you are looking to make contact with key decision makers, whether in national or regional

organisations, the Facilities Show is a great place to start."
The final word goes to first-time exhibitor, Esther Hooley, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer for Fragrance Delivery Technologies Ltd: “Attending the Facilities Show gave FDT the opportunity to introduce our unique new air freshening system which received a warm reception from facilities managers and professionals from many different industry sectors. Many attendees were drawn to our stand by the continuous fresh scent. This gave us the opportunity to discuss the technology which uses pure oxygen to deliver a consistent ambient fragrance without propellants or solvents – compounds that are harmful to the ozone layer. This new technology, providing continuous fragrance, renders traditional timed- spray aerosol products obsolete.”
The Facilities Show 2015 celebrated a sector that has so much to contribute to the economic success of the UK – and it did so in style. Roll on 2016, with even more innovations and inspiration to come!
The Facilities Show 2016 takes place at ExCel London from 21-23 June next year.
