STREET CLEANING & GRAFFITI REMOVAL
A slim construction makes it easy to clean underneath benches and other low level obstacles. A tilt system allows for scrubbing on ramps whilst anti- shock support provides for a smooth ride and protects against impact.
Kirklees Council
Case Study Kirklees Council took delivery of two City Ranger 3500’s in 2014 after an extensive procurement process. John Beckett, Area Manager for Kirklees commented on their experience to date:
Street Washing The City Ranger 3500 is ideal for street washing. The street flusher solution combines two attachments, a front mounted spray bar with nozzles that pivot up to 25°, and a large water tank that is fitted to the back of the vehicle.
The 1,000 litre polyethylene tank provides for powerful high pressure washing of up to 40 bar and is aided by a 10 metre hand lance. Perfect for Councils and Contractors, this sturdy machine, with a working width of 1,700mm, is built to work around the clock.
New Scrub Deck The Nilfisk City Ranger 3500 also features a ground breaking scrub deck. The new attachment adds scrubbing to the machine’s capabilities and has the added benefit of a 15 litre chemical tank. The attachment has a scrubbing width of 1,406mm and a brush diameter of 485mm. The scrub deck is unique in that suction is constant in both forwards and reverse mode. Water is turned off automatically when the machine is put into reverse and both water and brooms turn off if the unit remains stationary for more than three seconds.

“The Nilfisk City Ranger 3500 came out on top of our procurement process due to its terrific manoeuvrability with high suction power (even when sweeping in reverse). Its articulated design makes for high versatility operation because it can carry a range of attachments including winter maintenance equipment and parkland care, which are easy to mount and change.
“Before purchasing the units we contacted other users in the UK, to gain references about the performance of the sweepers and valuable insight into the history of breakdowns, spares supply and cost. Hull City Council was one of the first in the UK to put the machines into operation, and their testimonial was key in the decision for us to purchase our sweepers.
“We are absolutely amazed by the suction and capacity of the sweepers. They have proven a tremendous asset, they are very comfortable for the driver to operate while visibility is provided all round, making the operation safer. It took a while for our drivers to get used to the articulated design. You have got to learn to trust it, because where the front end goes, the back will follow. You start to worry about the back; however once you get used to that extra manoeuvrability, the vehicle’s operation is unbelievable.”
Kirklees also reorganised its street scene team into multi-discipline groups that work in parks and open spaces. As a result they have purchased a number of attachments for grass cutting as well as weed brushes and other grounds care features.
Rochdale Council
Case Study Rochdale Council are also utilising a Nilfisk City Ranger outdoor machine for non-toxic weed ripping with excellent results. The liveried four-wheel-drive, 35 HP City Ranger 2250 is used almost exclusively for weed ripping that was previously carried out manually.
Rochdale Council had been carrying out weed control by hand before moving to mechanisation using the City Ranger 2250. Transport Procurement Officer for Rochdale Council, John King commented on the initiative: “The weed removal tool is a world away from our previous manual methods. The performance and productivity of the machine is fantastic and has made a massive difference. The staff are very happy with the operation of the unit which consistently gets positive comments from local residents. The results are evident from the before and after photos and all achieved with no use of chemicals.”
The weed control tool works by scouring weeds loose and destroying new shoots. Regular brushing thereafter keeps areas weed free. The City Ranger sweeper is extremely manoeuvrable and turns in a very tight circle. Brush heads can be easily turned and angled enabling perfect results on a myriad of surfaces including cobbles, flags, slants, right angles, kerbs and around lamp posts.
A six metre vacuum hose is optional for nooks and crannies but the suction sweeper hopper efficiently removes all weeded material and any new seeds. Overall a highly effective solution that cleans up as it goes along. Additional options include an integrated high pressure washer and a rear view camera.
The indispensable suction sweeper attachment is equipped with two front brushes as standard with two side brushes being optional. Each height adjustable brush has its own water sprayer preventing the spread of dust. Both hopper and water tanks are made from rust free moulded plastic.
