SCA STRENGTHENS ITS TISSUE BUSINESS
IN THE UK To meet the growing demand for high-quality tissue and strengthen the product offering in the UK, SCA is investing in a through-air drying (TAD) machine at its tissue plant in Skelmersdale.
SCA has also decided to close an older tissue machine in Stubbins and signed an agreement to divest its tissue plant in Chesterfield to Sidcot Group Limited. These measures are part of SCA’s Tissue Roadmap and are aligned with the company’s strategy to streamline production and secure capacity for future growth to increase value creation in the Tissue
BCC CHAIRMAN HAILS CLEANING SHOW SEMINAR
PROGRAMME BCC Chairman, Simon Hollingbery, is urging visitors to the Cleaning Show in March to attend at least one seminar, as he says there is a wealth of information available that will be relevant to anyone running a UK cleaning business.
He said: “We’ve organised a very comprehensive array of guest speakers and seminars which will examine important aspects of the industry such as; Marketing, Immigration Enforcement, Apprenticeships, Health and Safety, the Living Wage, the Environment and Europe.”
“The great thing about this year’s seminar programme, is that we’ve got industry experts right there on the spot, and attendees will be able to ask them anything they want, even having a private one to one if they wish. This kind of knowledge and insight cannot be acquired anywhere else and that adds real value for anyone attending the show.”

The seminars run across the three days of the show (14-16th March) starting with an opening address from MP Jim Fitzpatrick, and a keynote address from Allison Ogden-Newton, Chief Executive, Keep Britain Tidy.
The first day also sees a keynote speech and seminar from Chris Edwards, who is Assistant Director of the Home Office Immigration Enforcement unit. He’ll be looking at illegal workers in the cleaning industry and ways to tackle the problem from an employer’s perspective.
The second day will look at how to market a business in the digital world, and there will also be a special focus on Health and Safety, with a number
of officials from the HSE delivering seminars on issues like occupational respiratory health in cleaning and preventing slips and trips with senior policy advisor, Tracy Hamilton, showing delegates how to make their businesses safer and stay on the right side of the law.
The seminars will also run on the third day of the show, where an expert industry panel will look into the future of the cleaning industry at areas like robotics.

business area. Both initiatives are subject to customary consultation with employee representatives.
Following an investment at the Skelmersdale tissue plant of more than £14million, the production capacity of TAD mother reels will be around 28,000 tons.
The cost for closing the older tissue machine in Stubbins, with an annual production capacity of 20,000 tons, is expected to amount to just over £10m, and the cost will be recognised as an item affecting comparability, mainly taken in the first quarter of 2017. Just over £6m of these costs are expected to impact cash flow.
Sidcot Group Limited will pay a consideration of approximately £3m for the production facility in Chesterfield. The facility produces mother reels but has no converting capacity. SCA will have no internal need for the type of mother reels produced at the plant. The annual production capacity is 31,000 tons. Closing of the transaction is expected in the first quarter of 2017.
