BE PREPARED

F. Ball have designed a range of high-performance floor preparation products specifically for use in heavy-duty, industrial installations.

Contractors require specialist products when working in industrial environments where floors are typically subjected to a number of stresses, including heavy and repeated traffic, high temperatures, and in some cases, surface water.

Industrial workspaces will typically have unique requirements in terms of the exact materials used to install new floorcoverings. The most obvious requirement for products used in industrial applications is the ability to withstand heavy traffic, be it from heavy machinery, large vehicles, or high volume foot traffic.

HEAVY DUTY F. Ball has developed rapid-setting smoothing underlayments that are ideal for heavy-duty applications. For instance, in a recent refurbishment at an agricultural machinery merchants, contractors used Stopgap 300HD to raise and level the existing subfloors, making them ready to receive new floorcoverings.

Stopgap 300HD is a fast-drying, self- levelling smoothing underlayment that has been specifically designed for use in light to heavy-duty areas, making it ideal for both the staff offices and the showroom of the machinery merchants. Applicable in thicknesses up to 20mm in a single application, it can be hard enough to walk on in as little as 90 minutes, allowing contractors to reduce the time spent on site waiting for compounds to dry. It is compatible with a wide range of floorcovering and subfloor types.

For industrial areas where floorcoverings are not required, contractors can now use rapid- setting, self-levelling wearing surface compounds to cover existing concrete

subfloors. Stopgap 800 Wearcoat is an industrial grade self-levelling wearing surface, designed for use in heavy-duty areas where floorcoverings are not needed; for instance, in store rooms, warehouses or workshops.

Stopgap 800 Wearcoat is applicable in thicknesses of 5 – 15mm, and has special class abrasion resistance, meaning that it is perfect for heavy-duty industrial applications.

ANTI-STATIC In some industrial premises, such as electronic manufacturing plants, electrostatic discharge poses a serious problem. Electrostatic discharge can cause a significant amount of damage to sensitive electronic components and equipment.

Floorcovering manufacturers have developed a solution to this problem: anti-static floorcoverings. Contractors installing new floorcoverings in electronic manufacturing plants can use floorcoverings with static control properties to prevent the build-up of electrostatic charge, providing protection against component damage. It is vital that contractors working with such anti-static floorcoverings also use a compatible, conductive adhesive. The use of both anti-static floorcoverings and conductive adhesives effectively ensures against the build-up of electrostatic charge.

To make such installations as straightforward as possible, F. Ball developed a solvent-free, fibre-filled

SURFACE WATER Perhaps one of the most challenging projects for a contractor is an installation in an area that repeatedly experiences surface water, oil, or grease. Production lines, maintenance depots, and outdoor assembly area floors will regularly be subjected to these substances.

It is vital that any adhesives used in these sorts of industrial areas are resistant to water, oil and grease. If generic adhesives are used, the presence of such contaminants can cause the adhesive to fail. This will usually mean that the entire flooring installation fails.

F. Ball developed Styccobond F84 specifically for contractors working in such challenging environments. The two-part reactive epoxy resin adhesive has been specifically designed for use in areas such as maintenance depots and outdoor lots where the floor is likely to experience surface water on a regular basis. The adhesive is resistant to oil, water and grease when cured, and can be applied to a large number of subfloor types.
