RECOFLOOR SETS

NEW VINYL RECORD Recofloor, who divert vinyl flooring from landfill, hit a new record in 2015 by collecting 508 tonnes of material for recycling into flooring or other products.

Founded by leading flooring manufacturers Altro and Polyflor, Recofloor has over 650 members throughout the UK and Ireland. Recycling, as opposed to landfilling, waste vinyl flooring can reduce collectors’ waste disposal costs by up to 70% and also benefits the environment.

Recofloor’s success in engaging with all levels of the flooring chain continues to drive the scheme and it has built up a strong relationship with distributors who contributed 213 tonnes (42%) to last year’s total. Contractors performed robustly with nearly 178 tonnes (35%), while construction projects generated just over 28 tonnes.

CELEBRITY APPEAL FOR

ATKINSON & KIRBY Celebrity property developer and TV presenter, Sarah Beeny, has chosen Atkinson & Kirby’s parquet flooring to provide a stylish finish to her kitchen, hall and basement as part of a home makeover project.

Atkinson & Kirby’s new Renaissance Collection of classic parquet flooring provides unbeatable visual appeal, as well as a robust and durable flooring option to withstand knocks and dents.

Communicating how the scheme works through a number of trade and Bacon Butty events at distributors’ sites has been a key factor in encouraging greater participation, according to Recofloor’s Carla Eslava. Activities included a communication campaign with distributors to encourage the use of drop-off sites.

Collections were also boosted by the Love2shop Promotion in August when all members who raised a collection of smooth offcuts, safety off-cuts or smooth uplifted vinyl during that month

The Renaissance Collection is inspired by current trends with 10 contemporary colours, as well as oiled, brushed and lacquered finishes designed specifically to combine durability and functionality to suit a wide range of tastes.

Paul Martin, Channel Marketing Manager for Atkinson & Kirby, said: “We

were entered into a free prize draw to win £100 in shopping vouchers.

Commenting on the 2015 figure, Carla said: “Once again, we have exceeded 500 tonnes in a single year and

are very proud that our parquet range has been chosen as a valuable addition to Sarah Beeny’s home makeover. Having a celebrity endorse our products is fantastic exposure for the brand.

“Our off-the-shelf availability makes us ideal for projects such as this, as we’re able to supply a quality product on a quick turnaround at a competitive price.”

Talking about the project, Sarah Beeny said: “We’ve put in parquet block flooring throughout our kitchen, hall and basement. I’m a huge parquet fan as it’s a fantastic all-rounder, so hardwearing and lasts almost forever!

“It will get scratches and scrapes, but these add to a lovely ageing patina. I like the fact that it is so forgiving when you drop something on it and that it’s much cosier to walk on than cold stone or tiles.”
