Surviving space
Tyndall researchers are working on a project to develop a real-time wearable personal radiation monitor to use in space. It will
instantly warn astronauts of increased and dangerous radiation levels. The radiation monitor will be placed permanently on the International Space Station in June 2016.
Smart skin
At Tyndall, we are developing the first ever wearable Smart Skin, which is the next
generation of our smart glove/smart hand. The electronics in this generation of our smart hand are stretchable, flexible, and more invisible and contain over 90 sensors such as accelerators, gyroscopes and magnetometers.
Traffic jam
Tyndall researchers are addressing the zettabyte challenge. This year, global
internet traffic will pass a zettabyte and reach two zettabytes by 2019. To enable this, communications networks need next generation transceiver technologies that transfer more data down a single optical fibre at reduced device size and cost.
MOVPE This is the Metalorganic Vapour Phase
Epitaxy (MOVPE) reactor at Tyndall, one of the purest reactors in the world. It supports both fundamental and applied research with a leading role in MOVPE epitaxial processes understanding.

Tyndall researchers are developing novel nanosensor technology covering a wide range of applications in the agri-food sector. Here our researchers are working on technology for the early and rapid detection of Liver Fluke and Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis (IBR) in cattle.
