T
here are many reasons why companies choose to invest in Ireland; from our skilled workforce and attractive tax rate, to our ease of doing business, our investment in research and development and
our proximity to Europe. Ireland is home to 1,200 overseas company operations and continues to attract companies from sectors such as ICT, life sciences, financial services, internet, engineering and business services. Many of these companies are undertaking strategic activities such as advanced manufacturing, R&D and global business services in Ireland. Ireland is first in the world for inward investment by quality and value, and first in Europe for inward investment jobs per capita. IDA Ireland, Ireland’s investment, promotion and development agency, has a track record of 50 years in supporting foreign direct investment. A young, motivated and flexible workforce is in great supply here. Ireland stands out with the youngest population in the EU – 40 per cent of the
population is under 30 years of age – and we rank in the top ten countries in the world for the availability of skilled labour. The corporate tax rate in Ireland is an attractive 12.5 per cent, lower than Singapore (17%), Hungary (19%) and the UK (20%) and significantly lower than Germany’s rate of 30 per cent. Conducting everyday business operations is a straightforward affair and Ireland ranks thirteenth in 189 countries in the 2015 World Bank Doing Business report. Our high quality of life is another key reason why so many household names have chosen to locate here: Ireland ranks first in the EU for its air quality and is the twelfth best country to be born in according to The Economist intelligence unit. €8.2 billion has been invested under the Irish government’s strategy for science, technology and innovation, and Ireland is now ranked the eighth most innovative country in the EU.
