Analytical Instrumentation

Superior Sulfur Detection with New PFPD

Industry-Leading Dynamic Range of Mass Flow Controllers

Two New Product Lines Reinforce North American Position of Independent Reagents, Standards and Solutions Manufacturer

OI Analytical, a Xylem brand, is raising the bar on pulsed fl ame photometric detector technology with its 5383 Pulsed Flame Photometric Detector (PFPD). As the second generation of OI Analytical’s patented PFPD, this new model proves to be more compact, modular, and offers greater ease of use without sacrifi cing the instrument’s accuracy. With a 10-fold increase in sensitivity over most traditional FPDs and a signifi cant improvement in signal processing, the 5383 PFPD allows for easier analysis of sulfur, phosphorous, and other elements. Intuitive, easy-to-use software with integrated monitoring further supports the system by providing a powerful tool for parameter optimisation, data analysis, and more. Things you should know about OI Analytical’s 5383 PFPD: Provides linear, equimolar response for quick, easy calibrations, simultaneously measures mutually selective chromatograms (e.g., S+C, or S+P), self-cleaning feature eliminates soot formation seen in other sulfur-selective detectors, new design provides separate electronics and fl ow modules, offers better long-term stability and less maintenance than other S-selective detectors, such as SCD/XRF. The 5383 PFPD is the key technology in OI Analytical’s S-PRO 3200, a custom-confi gured, turn-key GC system for selective, high-sensitivity measurement of sulfur compounds in gas-phase samples and Liquefi ed Petroleum Gas (LPG) streams, such as propylene and ethylene. See the 5383 PFPD put to work in OI Analytical’s newest application note: Analysis of Thiophene in Benzene Using ASTM Method D7011 and a Pulsed Flame Photometric Detector (PFPD). Press-fi t style

connectors work well for many applications, but the connector seal can be broken by extreme temperature and pressure cycling. In these situations, SilTite µ-Unions, from Restek are a better alternative as they create a permanent connection between

fused silica analytical columns, guard columns, and retention gaps. SilTite FingerTite technology provides easy installation and a reliable, leak-tight connection. Data quality can be improved by using these connectors because their zero-dead-volume design and deactivated metal construction ensure optimal peak shapes. Robust SilTite µ-Unions are recommended for mass spectrometry work and any application with extreme temperature and pressure changes. Connector kits are available in six confi gurations that are designed to securely connect columns of either the same or different inner diameters. Each kit contains two SilTite µ-Union connectors, fi ve double-taper ferrules, and installation tools.

On the heels of the company’s fortieth anniversary, RICCA Chemical Company, responding to market demand, announced two new product lines: Karl Fischer Reagents for Moisture Analysis which will be marketed under the RICCA brand name HydroSpec, and AA/ICP/IC Spectroscopy Standards which will be marketed under the RICCA brand name VeriSpec. Bringing these two product lines to market extends the company’s position as the largest independent manufacturer of chemical testing solutions in North America.

“We are proud of our reputation for never cutting corners to deliver our customers products that meet the tightest standards. Our new product lines are no different – both product lines are NIST traceable where available, and have the tightest specifi cations tolerances, ensuring low lot-to-lot variability. In fact, all products come with a Certifi cate of Analysis for convenient reference,” said Doug Dowd, President at RICCA.

RICCA now offers a full line of Karl Fischer Reagents for Moisture Analysis including both Coulometric and Volumetric Reagents, all formulated for high performance and reliable results. The reagents support a wide range of sample types from Ethanol to Fuels, to Fats and Oils, and General Organic Chemicals. Volumetric Reagents are available for both one-and-two component titrations, and also include solvents compatible with a variety of sample types. Coulometric Reagents are available for titration cells with or without a diaphragm. Specialised reagents are designed to better analyse samples insoluble in Methanol to ensure fast, reliable and reproducible results. Product details include:

Reagents available in 500 mL and 1 L sizes - 1 L Bottles have the industry standard GL45 Neck Finish for convenient connection, stable formulations and comprehensive chemical compatibility, and a 5-Year shelf life for most reagents. Samples are available upon request.

RICCA now provides AA/ICP/IC Standards that meet ISO 17025/ Guide 34 requirements with the VeriSpec line of certifi ed reference materials, guaranteeing the products provide precise and accurate results. The ICP/ICP-MS standards are available in both single-element and multi-element solutions. Products include elements required by the EPA Contract Laboratory Program. Both single and multi-element standards are applicable to standard methods such as EPA 200.7, 200.8, 200.9, SW-846, 6010, 6020, 200.11, etc. Certifi cates of Analysis contain details for 70 trace elements and impurities.

Laboratories that source with RICCA can expect the highest level of quality with ISO 17025/Guide 34 accreditations. In addition to increased confi dence in analyses, laboratories get detailed Certifi cates of Analysis depicting traceability of measurements and calibrations to national standards. RICCA also produces custom blends to meet specifi c laboratory requirements.
